Bless your heart, American Idol. Bless it. In the wake of much more original and exciting talent reality shows, AI is desperately trying to stay remain once again become relevant. After unveiling the new judges, tabloids immediately began speculating about a giant feud brewing between the original diva Mariah Carey and raspy rapper extraordinaire Nicki Minaj. Here's what I know to be true: Starships were meant to fly, Glitter will always be a horrible movie, and such obvious PR stunts can be spotted from a mile away.
I mean, yes, if you told me that Mariah Carey would be totally horrid to work with and she has a need to always be the HBIC (head b*tch in charge, duh), I would totally believe you. If you also informed me that Nicki Minaj had an ego the size of her booty and annoyed everyone in her path, I certainly wouldn't call you a liar. However, the whole situation is just too perfect. The show needs publicity. Shoving Keith Urban in America's face wasn't enough to create a giant buzz, so let's say these two talented, strong-willed, and notoriously diva-licious ladies can't stand one another. Nice try.

TMZ is reporting that Mariah and Nicki are already at each other's throats after one day of auditions. Mariah allegedly hung up on the producer who called to tell her that Nicki was joining that judges' panel (that I kind of believe!).
The site claims that Mariah tried her hardest to shut Nicki down during filming, interrupting her critiques of the singers several times over. Of course, not one to shy away from, well, anything, Nicki would continue talking loudly over Mariah's interjections to get her point across to contestants. Poor Randy Jackson and Keith. You know Randy's wondering why he couldn't have been lucky enough to get the boot along with the rest of last season's judges. Dawg just can't catch a break!
Apparently Mariah and Nicki are doing their best to hide their disdain for one another, although their best isn't nearly good enough. An Idol insider tells the site that no one on set is buying what these two are selling, sharing, "These girls just don't like each other."
I don't doubt that these women are both total divas, and I'm sure we'll never see pictures of them shopping for best friend heart lockets. However, I highly doubt they share a mutual hatred…yet, at least. Perhaps Ryan Seacrest needs to start playing "Up Out My Face" every time these kooks walk into a room together. Not familiar? That would be the song Mariah and Nicki collaborated on back in 2009 for Mariah's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" album. I don't remember hearing any craziness from these two while they were happily performing together, do you? It looks like someone on American Idol's PR team failed to do a quick Google search. Yikes. That's Publicity Stunt 101!
