Tia Mowry Discusses Turning 35, Being A New Mom, And Returning To Sitcom Television In ‘Instant Mom’

Celebrities attend Us Weekly annual Hot Hollywood Style issue event celebrating 2013 Funny & Fashionable Style Winners

Tia Mowry seems to be the type of woman who effortlessly juggles it all from her reality show, Tia & Tamera to being a new mom to 2-year-old son Cree

And now she's returning to sitcom acting in the new show "Instant Mom". Tia's character, Stephanie, plays party-girl who marries an older man with children who she in-turn is forced to become a step-mother to! "I think Stephanie, like every mom, is trying to find a balance," Tia tells Essence of her new role and the similarities they share.

"We all know at the end of the day you can’t just be friends with your kids, because you give them an inch they take a mile. So it’s trial and error with her. We’re not perfect. Being a mother and a parent does not come with a handbook."

As for being a real-life mom, Tia says it's been a learning process, and that she's had to learn to let go a bit. "I think when we’re new moms you have this perfect schedule and you want everything to go perfectly," she explains. "You just want everything to go right."

As for what pulled her back to sitcom acting, Tia says the flexibility. "I love this schedule," she says. Adding, "It’s great for families because it’s very predictable and the hours aren’t that long, especially when you’re working with kids you have to get in and get out. I’m like, ‘Oh, we’re done? I get to come home and be with my son?’

On top of everything else she is juggling (including a new movie, 'Baggage Claim') Tia along with twin sister Tamera Mowry just turned 35!

"I feel like there’s so much more to accomplish. I have admitted that I’m a workaholic. I love what I do. I love being able to escape from reality and be able to dive into a character and perfect that character and become that character. For some reason it’s all I know so it’s what I live and breathe for but there’s so much more that I want to do. I want to continue to do film."

And Tia's most recent birthday reminded her to accept challenges and think about how she can further develop her career. "My sister and I, it was a challenge getting Sister Sister. A lot of people don’t know that the show hadn’t gotten picked up until the last minute," Tia reveals. "There are more challenges out there. I want to get into meatier roles and I want to continue to get into my brand that my sister and I have."

Tia celebrated her birthday with her husband and son in New Mexico. "My son’s birthday is June 28th so we celebrated it together and we went to this amazing place. It’s an organic lavender farm in Albuquerque and it was just nice and quiet," Tia shares.

"We like doing normal things because our lives are so hectic and busy. I value normalcy and so to be able to just bring it down and focus on being a normal family, that’s what we did and I enjoyed it so much."
