You can’t escape the latest “it” girl, and why would you want to? Gigi Hadid is drop-dead gorgeous (as are her siblings), she’s dating Cody Simpson, and she counts Taylor Swift (love), Selena Gomez, and Kendall Jenner among her besties. She just landed a coveted contract with Maybelline. Girlfriend is having one heck of a year.
The stunning nineteen-year-old first came on our radar with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as her mother Yolanda Foster monitored her snack intake. Now Gigi’s star is shining brighter than all the lemons in YoFo’s ridiculous refrigerator. Seriously. Growing up the daughter of Mohammed and Yolanda alone would be enough to potentially turn her into a spoiled and entitled wild child…much like some other reality stars’ kids who shall remain nameless. However, Gigi seems incredibly down to earth both on the show and in interviews.

In a recent interview with E!, Gigi opens up about her mother’s health issues, saying, “You know it’s hard, especially with something like Lyme Disease, not a lot of people know about it, especially doctors so they don’t really know how to help, medical wise, so it’s really hard for me and my siblings to know how we could help, but I guess just being supportive is the best way we can do it,” adding, “You can tell how much it means to her when, during a lunch break on a shoot, I’ll FaceTime her and talk to her about how my day’s going. I think just the little things like that is what’s helping her get through it.”
Yolanda also recently scolded her detractors on Instagram, writing, “Discrediting someones disease because you’re not educated is a despicable act and lowest blow to ones integrity #ThoughtOfTheDay at SunRise #BeKind#InvisibleDisabilities #ChronicNeurologicalLyme.” She has a very valid point. Lyme Disease is no joke.
Following in her mother’s footsteps down the runway, Gigi admits that she has a very healthy body image (That and the metabolism of a teenager!). She explains, “I’ve kinda had an easy time with the whole body image thing, just because from the second I walked into IMG, I was like, ‘This is what I wanna do with my career, but the one thing is that I’m not gonna lose a certain amount of weight. I’m not gonna be extremely skinny.’ I just don’t want to do that. I’ve always been an athlete. I’ve always had a certain body type that I’ve always been happy with and I didn’t wanna let that go for a career.”
Dishing on one of her uber-famous model friends who happens to know a thing or two about reality television, Gigi shares, “We’ve only been friends for like a year now, but [Kendall is] one of my best friends. She’s so awesome,” revealing, “I was always kinda told that when I was becoming a model, don’t live with a model because you get competitive…but I don’t really find that I get competitive with my friends, especially with someone like Kendall…we look nothing alike. So someone that’s gonna want a Kendall is not gonna want a Gigi.”
And of course, a giant cosmetics brand definitely wanted a Gigi. Speaking to People, Gigi describes the contract as her best Christmas present. She recalls, “Well my mom kind of was involved with the whole contract. She actually knew a lot of it with my agent [Luiz Mattos] before they told me. Luiz gave me my Christmas present. I opened it in front of the whole agency and it was my contract. My mom was there when I opened my present. And my whole family’s so excited. It was the best Christmas present I’ve ever gotten in my life.”
Gigi continues, “I’ve been watching Maybelline commercials since I was little and singing along with the jingle and doing little Maybelline commercials in my bathroom when I was like 10. I think a Maybelline girl represents such amazing thing — a girl that’s independent and strong and can maneuver the city by herself and you know really the New York girl, which girls all over the world look up to. So to be able to represent that girl is so amazing. And also to adventure in New York with the Maybelline team will be really fun.”
Yeah, that will be fun…that and hanging out with T-Swizzle.
