Katie Hamilton is supposed to be one of the two new Real Housewives Of Orange County stars, but amid news that her MLB player husband Josh Hamilton has relapsed in his battle with cocaine addiction, Katie may have quit the show!
Last week ESPN confirmed that Josh, an outfielder for the Angels, was meeting with MLB baseball officials for a “disciplinary issue.” Josh had surgery in February and was recovering at a friend’s house possibly because he was having issues with Katie, which led to a relapse “at least involving cocaine.”
Josh’s wife Katie has been filming for RHOC, and according to sources “fitting in well” with the group, leaving producers thrilled with her addition to the cast. She joined alongside another MLB wife Meghan Edmonds, both of whom know Heather Dubrow. But did the intrusion of reality TV place strain on Josh and Katie’s 10-year-marriage?

Today YahooSports reports that Josh’s latest relapse occurred after an argument with Katie. “Hamilton has told people his latest spiral began around Super Bowl weekend after a fight with his wife. Because he cannot carry cash or credit cards [because he doesn’t trust himself], Hamilton wrote himself a check to cash. He wound up at a strip club and used cocaine. “
Josh has an extensive history of substance abuse. He initially went to rehab in 2001, but was suspended from MLB in 2003 after failing multiple drug tests. He attempted numerous comebacks between 2003 and 2006, along with numerous stints in rehab, before finally being reinstated in 2006 by the commissioner. In 2009 and 2012 he struggled with alcohol use reports Deadspin, but this relapse is considerably more serious because it involves illegal drugs.
Josh, who as part of his reinstatement deal is subjected to weekly drug tests by the MLB, “honorably confessed” to a relapse last month, then flew to NYC for a meeting with the MLB Commission. FoxSports’, Jon Morosi explained, “discipline for Josh Hamilton would be at commissioner’s discretion” because of the player’s long-standing history with drug and alcohol infractions. As it stands, a four-person panel is deciding Josh’s fate and whether or not he needs another stint in rehab.
In the wake of Josh’s issues, Katie is considering leaving RHOC. When Josh’s relapse went public, Katie took a two-week hiatus from filming, obviously to focus on family matters (the couple has 4 daughters) and allegedly to avoid cameras capturing too much of the behind-the-scenes.
Insiders tell RumorFix Katie has already shot tons of footage for RHOC. Additional reports share that Katie and Josh were vacillating over just how much of their personal lives to include, although Josh is open about his struggles and how finding Jesus helped him get sober. Unfortunately cameras were rolling during the time period of Josh’s latest relapse and sources are speculating if RHOC will air that footage (or what they may have captured). I wonder if MLB will have some say?
Katie and Josh were allegedly conflicted about how much to share regarding his addiction. The devout Christian couple has relied on Katie’s father as a sort of sober coach for Josh.
When news of Josh’s confession to drug use broke, Meghan tweeted support for her fellow-baseball wife.
The MLB Commission has remained silent on Josh’s future, but a suspension seems imminent. Sources say a decision will be made this week. This could seriously affect the 5-year, $125 million dollar contract the 34-year-0ld signed with the Angels in 2013, a contract of which $89.7 million remains in the balance.
In other news Vicki Gunvalson has patched things up with on-again/off-again bestie Tamra Judge, remains friends with Shannon Beador, and so far everyone on RHOC is getting along fabulously! Huh?
During a recent bowling night no one fought! “Vicki and Shannon were holding hands throughout the night proving they are still great friends,” a witness told E! News. “Meanwhile, it looks like Heather and Shannon have put aside their differences because they left the bowling alley hugging and laughing.” You mean rich ladies who love living in denial have finally realized they have more in common than they think?! No…
New Housewife Meghan “totally fits” with the group. “They all seemed to get along really well,” says the source, who added that Lizzie Rovsek joined them later at the bar. “They had a really good time. One of the ladies announced they were going to Tahiti and they celebrated with a round of drinks.”
So does that mean the cast trip is in Tahiti?!
Unfortunately not everything worked out – Tamra and Vicki got stranded in their limo together on the way home. HA! That’s my version of sheer hell.
