This week Kathy Wakile spent quite a bit of time promoting the new season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. On Amy Phillips’ “Reality Checked” SiriusXM radio show earlier this week, Kathy discussed a few things about tonight’s upcoming episode, her new house, her strained relationship with Teresa Giudice and more!
Kathy shared that they’re all moved into the new house and that it was a lot of fun building it (at least for her) and she designed the entire thing. She made the house open like a California layout – outside coming in, no cabinets in the kitchen. She said that the house isn’t as big as we think, it just looks that way because her bedroom is on the first floor.
Kathy shared that Jacqueline was very open and honest about their need to downsize. She doesn’t know the details of what’s going on with Jac and Chris, but she says she doesn’t need to know. “It’s not my concern. I know they’ve buckled down and scaled back and they did what they had to do. They weren’t ashamed in any way.”
Amy asks if Jacqueline and Chris were inspired by what happened with Teresa and Joe and maybe gave them perspective? Kathy says “I don’t know, I think when something like that happens to anyone you know, you start to evaluate your own life a little bit.” She adds, “Anyone with a conscience starts to think about that. You start to wonder if, if it happened to her, it could happen to you.”
Amy mentions that when she interviewed Teresa and Melissa the day before, they said that they hadn’t talked to Kathy since the show wrapped. Kathy says she has sent them texts but only has received a response from Melissa.
Amy then mentions watching the trailer for tonight’s episode where Teresa says to Kathy and Rosie that she had to cut the cancer out. Amy asks her to explain what that means. “Ah, do you ever know what she means? I don’t know, I found it offensive. And I had to stay focused on my mission for that lunch and it wasn’t to fight and she’d been through so much and I wasn’t going there to fight. So, I had to really…I have a lot of cuts in my tongue. Constantly biting it. So I had to put that out there. How do you even say something like that to me? My father died of cancer, I have a daughter that has suffered two brain tumors. How can you even talk like that to me?” She adds that Victoria is fine and they were benign tumors, but still… “It took a lot of focus to keep on the mission of that lunch. We were trying to smooth things out and be supportive, that’s all.”
Does she feel like she accomplished that goal this season? Of doing what she set out to do? “Yeah, I always want to keep things on the positive. I can’t be responsible for what anybody else thinks or what anybody else perceives of what I’m trying to tell them. I know how the message is supposed to come out and I know the intention of my message. I can only be responsible for myself.”
Kathy’s thoughts on newbies Siggy Flicker and Dolores Catania: “I think the energy is great. Siggy is just a hot ball of fun and she’ll tell you what she feels. She’s great, she brings a great energy.” She then shares that she and Dolores came from the same neighborhood. “We get each other. I know what she’s all about and her family. She has two amazing, great kids and they’re close in age to my kids. It says a lot about her because she really devoted a lot of her time to her kids and bringing them up and being there for her kids. I think that says a lot.” Kathy has known Dolores for twenty years and Siggy for four years.
She confirms that Rosie Pierri has a new girlfriend and the family likes her. We’ll get to see that relationship bloom this season.
Kathy says that being part time on the show this season is affording her to focus on her dessert line and other ventures.
Tonight is an all new episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Melissa and Teresa see each other for the first time after Teresa’s prison release. Jacqueline gets a surprise (and totally awkward) call from Teresa as Dolores attempts to negotiate peace between the two. Joe Gorga bellyaches about the amount of time Melissa is spending on her new boutique.
