Obviously, Cynthia Bailey’s divorce from Peter Thomas was going to be her main story line on this season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, but I was not really sure what to expect from it. One moment that surprised me during the second episode this season was when Cynthia’s daughter Noelle questioned her about having a low self-esteem.
I was surprised she asked her mother that (especially on camera) and I could tell Cynthia was completely floored that her daughter thought that was the case. It was very clear that Cynthia was thrown off. Now that that the scene has aired, I could not help being curious about Cynthia feels about it.

In an interview with Bravo, Cynthia discussed how tough it is to divorce Peter (again), as well as the competition between Sheree Whitfield and Kenya Moore over their homes (another topic I’m tired of). If you’re interested in how those topics were regurgitated, you can check that out, but I’m gonna skip that part and get to the interesting part of the interview…at least in my opinion.
Cynthia was asked about breaking down during that talk with her daughter. Cynthia explained, “I do not have low self-esteem. I was really caught off guard when my daughter Noelle asked me if I did.” We really don’t see much of Noelle on the show, but it was still not something that I expected her to say. And obviously Cynthia didn’t either.

Cynthia explained why Noelle‘s question upset her so much: “I always try to teach her by example and be a good role model. It hurt me to hear her even have to question whether or not I had low self-esteem! My whole life I have always tried to represent confidence, strength, and fearlessness. Especially where my daughter is concerned!”
Clearly, Cynthia really took Noelle‘s remark to heart. She said, “I raised her to be an independent thinker and never to settle for less than what she wants and what feels she deserves. I broke down because I felt like I had failed her. And myself.” Damn.
