Mother of eight Kate Gosselin will continue to build her reality TV résumé with a new show. This time the show will focus less on motherhood and spotlight her love life.
Kate will be returning to TLC this fall for her new series Kate Plus Date.
In an interview with People, Kate admitted that she “started picturing myself sitting in a rocking chair, knitting, and words like ‘old maid’ and ‘spinster’ started to come to mind, and I realized that no, I don’t want that to be my fate.”
Her previous reality TV ventures (and her life) revolved around being a mom to eight kids. Kate explained, “I stopped focusing on myself — I used to be a runner, and all of these things sort of fell by the wayside, and I sort of forgot about the dating thing.”
Kate explained why she feels more comfortable dating with a camera crew than in real life: “If I’m going to date someone, I can’t just go out on a date — it’s creepy to me to think of just going out somewhere with some stranger, and so I actually feel like doing it like this is the best and safest way for me to go on a date — a camera crew will be there! I’ll be safe!” That actually does make sense. I just don’t know who was asking for this show. I already feel like Kate overstayed her welcome on reality TV, but maybe I’m in the minority on that one and she has a massively loyal fan base that’s thirsting for this show?
Kate also said,“And the person will have been vetted by a matchmaker.” Kate added, “I won’t be just doing some scary online thing.” She said, “I mean, online dating, seriously — I put my profile in there and people will know who it is within 90 seconds. No, this is probably the safest way for me to date, let’s be honest.”
