Why is it that so many reality television stars end up in legal and financial trouble? Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice of Real Housewives of New Jersey spring to mind immediately. Both Teresa and Joe received jail sentences for federal fraud charges. Why don’t reality stars learn from the mistakes of others?
Now Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star Erika Jayne (also known as Erika Girardi) and her husband, Tom Girardi, are the latest reality stars to find themselves in financial hot water. Will Erika need to part with any of her sexy catsuits to help raise funds for her spouse? Will she need to schedule more singing (and puss-patting) shows for her loyal fans? I hope so!
Erika’s husband, Tom, has been slapped with a $15 million lawsuit. According to an article from The Blast, The Law Finance Group is suing Tom and his law firm, Girardi Keese. The group claims that Tom did not repay the $15 million loan that was to be used to fund his business. Worse yet, The Law Finance Group stated that the loans, which date from 2015, were “used to maintain Mr. Girardi’s lavish lifestyle and keep his prominent law firm financially afloat.” Does that “lavish lifestyle” include Erika’s musical ventures?
Tom, who is a Los Angeles litigation attorney, did not follow a plant make monthly payments from August 2018 with a $1 million payment by the end of October 2018, followed by a $5 million payment by January 1, 2019. The Law Finance Group also alleges that Tom agreed to use his home, legal fees, and the proceeds of his legal practice as collateral for the loan. The home, located in Pasadena, is the same one that is featured on RHOBH. There is no way that Erika is giving up that house. Ever.

Now, Tom is firing back at the allegations. In a statement to The Blast, Tom said, “The truth of the matter is this. I have not taken one penny from the law firm in the past three years. I have devoted everything to assist in the cases that we have here.” Then, he added, “Further, the money that was borrowed, we agreed to repay in approximately two weeks before the lawsuit. It is slanderous that the money was for my ‘lifestyle’ … every penny went for costs in cases that the firm is handling.”
I am sure that Erika is enraged not happy at all about this development, of course. It must take an incredible amount of self-control for her not to comment publicly. We will see if there are hints of financial trouble (or garage sales) for Erika and Tom when Season 9 of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills arrives on February 9.
