Former Real Housewives of Orange County star Gretchen Rossi and her fiancé Slade Smiley announced in December that they were expecting their first child together. The desire to have a family is something the couple has been open about for years. Gretchen has been honest about her fertility struggles with her fans, including undergoing multiple rounds of failed IVF treatments. And the physical and mental toll that has taken on her.
Gretchen has even revealed how Slade giving her fertility injections brought the two closer together as a couple. And now they have revealed the gender of their baby.
Over the weekend, Gretchen and Slade had a gender reveal party in their backyard, according to US Weekly. And they found out that they are having a girl! Gretchen, Slade, and their guests counted down from five before pink confetti poppers launched and revealed their baby’s gender. Unlike some couples, the two did not know whether they were having a girl or a boy before the party.
Gretchen shared videos to her Instagram Story that show the couple screaming, jumping up and down and hugging. She captioned the videos “It’s a GIRL!” Gretchen went on to say, “Thank you Lord for this amazing miracle.” And, “We wanted a little girl so much! We couldn’t be happier! Best day of my life!” Slade also has two sons from prior relationships who were occasionally seen during the seasons he was on the show.
The former Housewife revealed some of her thoughts about the day before the party, according to US Weekly. Gretchen shared on Instagram Story, “It’s the big day. We’re gonna find out what is in the belly. We can’t wait…It’s been a long journey, but we’re so excited to be here.”
Always a fashionista, Gretchen wore a custom pink and blue gown, apparently hedging her bets on the gender reveal. And Slade coordinated with Gretchen by wearing a pink button down shirt with a blue blazer. The pink and blue theme also extended to party decorations, including balloons and flowers. And a trendy pink and blue drip cake rounded out the festive theme.

At least one other Orange County Housewife attended the celebration-Lizzie Rovsek, who shared photos of the day on Instagram. Lizzie posted, “I couldn’t be happier for my amazing friends @gretchenrossi and @sladecbd. It’s a GIRL!!!”
Gretchen and Slade have been engaged since 2013, after dating for four years. She famously proposed to Slade in an over the top production that included a helicopter ride to the top of a Los Angeles building where guests were waiting.
The couple has confounded critics who were skeptical about if their relationship was real or would last. Yes, that would be you Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson! At this point, Gretchen and Slade have been together longer than many other Housewife couples. She has been rather non-committal about when or if she and Slade will ever tie the knot, but says that it is not a current priority for them.
Congratulations to Gretchen and Slade on the impending arrival of their baby girl. Their celebration must have been even sweeter knowing the very real struggle they have had to get there.
