Triangles are the strongest shape in the world. That’s not the case when it comes to friendship. At the end of last season on the Real Housewives of New York, the friendship of Luann de Lesseps and Dorinda Medley was reeling from some heavy, alcohol-laced hits. That meant Dorinda went from being the only cast member to be invited to Luann’s wedding to Tom D’Agostino—remember him?—to an enemy combatant. A frenemy who heckled Luann mercilessly during her cabaret show with cries of “Jovani.”
The Season 11 premiere of RHONY proved those wounds are still fresh. And the addition of Barbara Kavovit’s as a Friend of the Housewives is just adding salt to those wounds. And, apparently, creating a toxic friendship triangle. Barbara also attended that cursed wedding. Even after she was picked up on former Real Housewives‘ cast member Carole Radziwill’s microphone predicting that Luann would “rather go through with it and get divorced than call it off.”
In
an interview with Us Weekly,
Dorinda said, “You are going to see throughout the season [that] I’m just trying so hard to communicate with her, and
Barbara, unfortunately, is constantly blocking it.”
Nevertheless, Dorinda was willing to own her part in hurting Luann. She said, “I think I made it go on longer than it should have. We needed to clear the air. I mean, listen, you know when you have a break like that, it changes the relationship. So we’re working on it, but yeah, we’re in a good place [now].”
Then Dorinda called out Barbara for a lack of loyalty to her. “She was an independent friend of mine,” Dorinda said. “So I was just so dumbfounded when…it’s almost like she didn’t know me. I was like, ‘It’s me! Remember me? Remember the person that saved you when you were at Luann’s wedding and she didn’t want to speak to you?” Well, as my friend’s mother likes to say, “Who’s the smart one now?”
Dorinda added, “So, the person that Luann wasn’t speaking to a year ago is now her soldier and protector. The whole thing was very bizarre to me, and it was bizarre…I was very close to Luann, and I also was hurt that all of a sudden everything was minimized about my value in her life and how I participated in it.” She added, “I felt like I was a ride or die.”

Watch What Happens Live, Dorinda had some choice advice for
Luann: “Just stay out of rehab. Stop worrying about me.” It makes me wonder: does Dorinda actually knows the meaning of “ride or die?” Because with friends like that who needs enemies?
