The Real Housewives of Potomac took over New Orleans last week and drama erupted. Last week Gizelle Bryant confronted Karen Huger about not confiding in her about her business projects. Karen didn’t appreciate it, and stormed out of the dinner leaving everyone speechless. So much for their relationship getting back on track! These women will never been in a good place it seems.
Gizelle and Karen’s drama isn’t the only issue looming on the horizon. The group still hasn’t addressed or brought up the Michael Darby situation. Robyn Dixon and Candiace Dillard have kept their mouth shut so far. However, how long will that last? Ashley Darby’s marriage could be rocked by the end of tonight’s episode. Let the drama begin!I’m not sure why more people don’t watch The Real Housewives of Potomac. They’re always delivering both humor and drama on a weekly basis. The first season may have been rocky, but it’s evolved since then. Viewers should really give it a chance to thrive.
We pick back up with Karen’s walk off from the creole dinner, and she’s having no part of Gizelle. She thinks it was a total setup for Gizelle to blindside her at dinner. It’s hard to disagree because Gizelle had ample time to confront her privately. She chose to do it in front of the group to stir stuff up, and that was shady!
Everyone’s except Candiace is looking at Karen like she’s in the wrong here. Why would Karen reveal all of her private business information to someone who has been shady in the past? Nice try Gizelle.
Candiace opens up to the group about her continued struggles with her mother. She wants to attend therapy and reveals her mother called her bipolar as a child. Her mother is a medical professional and is using her expertise to make her child feel horrible.
The way her mother speaks to her is just not acceptable on any level. Mental illness is a real issue facing so many in America, and her mother is making light of it.
Katie Rost and Gizelle go to Candiace for further insight on Karen’s mindset when it comes to the group. It’s obvious Karen is still very raw following her father’s death and isn’t in a place of forgiveness yet. They were mocking Karen’s antics a bit which seemed insensitive in the moment.
Again, this is why Karen doesn’t pour her heart out to THIS group. I love Candiace, but in this moment she did make fun of Karen a bit. She likely did it to “fit in” with Gizelle and Katie, but that’s a crazy road she’d be better served to avoid altogether.
They turn the conversation to Ashley and her fertility journey. Ashley’s drinking seems to be a point of contention within the group. It’s a little weird how she says she’s sober, but we always see her with a drink in hand. You’re either drinking or you’re not.
It’s pretty black and white, unless you’re Ashley and everything’s always shrouded in mystery. Ashley and Michael are so fascinating in all of the worst ways.
Candiace is still holding the information she knows about Michael in her pack pocket. When the eventual confrontation between her and Ashley goes down, I wonder if she’ll pull THAT out. Michael allegedly making sexual comments about another man is definitely a conversation bombshell.
Ashley is NOT pregnant. She officially has her period, and she’s a little disappointed. Could it be the copious amounts of alcohol she’s downing all the time? It’s SO hard to take Ashley serious when she’s a walking contradiction. MAJOR EYE ROLL.
Karen and Monique Samuels have breakfast and Monique reveals she’s having a rainbow party. She suffered a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy, so she wants to close that chapter before the new baby. Losing a baby is always heartbreaking, but it’s so nice to see her happy and about to welcome a new life.
Gizelle has arranged for everyone to visit a plantation, and Candiace’s outfit is so not appropriate. What a bizarre outfit choice to attend this visit. A VERY short outfit to learn about Gizelle’s family roots.
Gizelle is always mocking everyone else so maybe it’s some passive aggressive shade. However, it’s more likely that I’m just really petty and want it to be for that reason.
Robyn tries giving a motivational speech and reveals that she has European ancestry. She’s apparently more European than she is African. Katie references years ago when she told her to get it checked because she clearly was biracial. Robyn definitely seemed uneasy to share that with the rest of the group.
As much as I find Robyn a total snooze, I don’t want her to feel singled out like that. In a group of predominantly African American women, she might feel like she doesn’t meet a certain standard. She is right though. It’s definitely more how you are raised and your upbringing and environment.
What an eye opening and terrible experience it was hearing about what slaves on the plantation went through. They were collared and put in boxes and just went through a horrendous gambit of torture. We all know that slavery existed and we learn about it in school, but it’s a different story hearing actual stories.
All of the women seem moved and affected by the tour so far, and it’s hard not to be. I wasn’t there in person, but as a viewer watching I was impacted. I cannot fathom how the world was like that and how humans did that to one another. It’s a whole different level of awful to hear the methods of punishment for “disobedient” slaves.
The plantation tour continues and Gizelle gets to see her great grandparents. She learns that a lot of her ancestors were raped, and it was so painful to hear. Gizelle’s dad weirdly shades Karen about her finances during her the tour.
What a weird moment that was. It was like Gizelle spoke through him in that moment. The jab came out of nowhere, and Gizelle probably planned that out ahead of time. That wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever.
THIS IS WHY KAREN CANNOT BE YOUR FRIEND GIZELLE. LEARN FROM THIS.
Probably the most gut wrenching part of the episode was hearing about all of the deceased children. Not only the deceased children, but the children who were unjustly forced to work as slaves. What an emotional experience that left me with chills and on the verge of tears.
There’s a lot of drama in this group of women, but things like this put it all into perspective. Monique in particular is pregnant right now, and she’s hearing about what they did to expectant mothers. That cannot be easy to listen to whatsoever.
It’s nice to see a deeper more real side to Gizelle on this tour. So often Gizelle feels manufactured and produced, but this was very real and organic. This trip will go down as one of the most powerful in Real Housewives history. Gizelle will undoubtedly go back to being messy, but this moment will live on forever.
Karen decides not to go out with the other ladies, because she’s evidently not in a good place. The anniversary of her father’s death is the next day, and she thinks it’s too fresh. That seems a little weird because she has been with them for two days leading up to that.
I respect Karen’s personal decision, but I question the sincerity. I think she is more trying to avoid Gizelle and the drama than it is about her father’s death.
Things get weird when Karen does an Instagram Live video, which makes the group doubt her reasons for not going out. I get why they’re questioning her in this moment. If she’s so raw and fresh and overwhelmed by grief, why is she talking to strangers?
People on Instagram can bring up the same things the people in the group will. How AWKWARD. It also sounded at the beginning of her video like she was referencing the previous dinner where Gizelle confronted her.
This group has a problem with being upfront and honest. They go out of their way to concoct a random story rather than being transparent about how they feel.
The women are going out, and Robyn is late once again. Has Robyn been late every episode this season to something? Someone get me the analytics on THAT. Robyn doesn’t add much anyway, so will she really be missed?
Meanwhile, Ashley is doing shots with the group at the bar. She keeps saying not to tell Michael, but obviously he will find out. Ashley keeps telling the women she isn’t supposed to be drinking, but we always see her turning up. Alright.
It wouldn’t be a big deal at all if Ashley didn’t constantly say she was sober right now. Sober where? Sober on what level? Girl please.
Tequila is my spirit animal so I support their after hours party at the hotel. Katie does the best flashing for beads at the party, and I support that also. Live your best life girl.
Everyone is having a blast UNTIL Gizelle opens her mouth. It gets brought up that Candiace doesn’t think Ashley really wants to have a baby. HERE WE GO. We almost made it. We almost had one night that went off without a ton of drama.
Ashley should tread lightly here because Candiace has a massive weapon that she can use at any time. Uh oh.
Everyone is taking Ashley’s side because yes it is possible to get pregnant if you’re drinking. However I thought the real issue was Ashley saying she wasn’t drinking to help with fertility.
Candiace is reading Ashley for filth in this scene. She says Ashley speaks on everyone else all the time, so she is giving her a taste of her own medicine. I think the issue is more about Ashley’s behavior overall in the group than it is about this baby issue.
Candiace says in her confessional that she is thinking about the Michael situation during the fight. She doesn’t want to use it though because there would be no going back.
Ashley unloads on Candiace, bringing up her miscarriage and how it’s not okay for Candiace to attack her. It’s so hard because Candiace is being judgement YES, but it’s hard to deny the nuggets of truth she is spilling here. Hopefully there’s some resolution next week. Always the optimist!
