Can you believe Season 6 of Southern Charm is almost over? Reunion time is always bittersweet–it is nice to have some of our burning questions answered, but also a little sad that we will have a long wait for the new season.
One of the biggest questions on Southern Charm this season has been about the alleged Kathryn Dennis and Whitney Sudler-Smith hookup. Did it happen–or not? Kathryn claimed during the season that she and Whitney had gotten together–and Whitney was more evasive on the subject. Now, we seem to have a confirmation about what really went down between the two of them–from none other than Whitney’s mother, Patricia Altschul.
Recently, a Twitter user posted about the hookup between Whitney and Kathryn, stating, “Kathryn was wrong bringing this up on camera with Whitney. Thomas has been dragging cast in court for anything said. Pat was recently deposed and spent hours being asked questions.”
In response, Patricia posted, “Whitney kept thinking the subject was closed but he should have spelled it out more to Kathryn.” So, if I read this correctly, this is a confirmation by Patricia, that yes indeed, Kathryn and Whitney made beautiful magic together. And Patricia thinks her son should have better hookup etiquette.

Maybe I am old fashioned. But, I am not sure that a mother should address her son’s sexual exploits on Twitter. However, I guess it is fitting as it is Whitney, Kathryn and Patricia we are talking about! The three of them have addressed hookup allegations before, since Season 1 of the show. I guess they are experts in this kind of delicate situation.
In her post, Patricia explained why Whitney was not forthcoming about his tryst with Kathryn on camera. She said, “I was being sued by Thomas [Ravenel] as was Haymaker and Bravo.” Haymaker is the production company that produces Southern Charm. As Kathyrn’s ex Thomas had been pulling different parties into court over the custody dispute between he and Kathryn, it is understandable that Whitney might want any contact between the two kept private.

Patricia also shared in her Twitter response, “Being a producer of the show, he [Whitney] wanted to avoid hours of depositions and lawyers since he was filming another project in London.”
So, basically, Whitney’s denials of his hookup were a cold and calculated business decision!
You probably can’t blame Whitney for trying to avoid the wrath of Thomas and be dragged into the messy legal situation. Honestly, Kathryn should probably have kept the hookup information to herself, as she was in the middle of a custody fight. However, I hope Whitney at least sent Kathryn flowers or a box of chocolates after denying their hookup on camera! It would have been the gentlemanly thing to do.

So why is Patricia spilling the all details now? She might feel comfortable in doing so as Thomas and Kathryn recently reached an agreement in their custody battle, which takes Whitney out of the line of legal fire. At least for now. Plus, Patricia is now on good terms with Kathryn after years of mutual animosity, so maybe she wanted to defend Kathryn’s version of the story.
So far, Patricia has remained mum on another topic of Charm conversation this season. Kathryn claimed that when she and Whitney engaged in adult nap time, he was naked–but left his glasses on during the act. I guess a mother knows when to practice discretion. Healthy personal boundaries are always good!
