Real Housewives of Orange County star Emily Simpson has had her struggles this season. She squabbled with her bestie, co-star Gina Kirschenheiter. While her husband, Shane Simpson, studied for the California Bar exam, she managed to work full-time and handle caring for their three kids. Shane prepped for the test by living at a hotel with no communication with his wife. And he didn’t pass.
In a confessional that Shane filmed for the show, a producer asked him if he missed his wife while he was at the hotel studying. “This is where the sarcasm comes in. Certainly, I missed her! If I tell you the truth, she’s gonna be pissed, and at the same time, I don’t wanna fib. I don’t really cry myself to sleep because I miss my family,” Shane stated. “I just do what I gotta do. And I know that there’s a time where it’ll be done, and I can come back home and I can be with my family and kids.” Viewers were not thrilled with Shane’s brand of “sarcasm.”
Then when Emily planned a Las Vegas anniversary celebration complete with a sexy on-stage dance for her husband, Shane declined to attend. Poor Emily invited RHOC co-stars Kelly Dodd and Braunwyn Windham-Burke, and Shane’s parents. The next day Shane showed up with a bouquet of flowers. I am astonished at the effort he put into surprising his wife.
During an interview on People TV’s Reality Check, Emily tried to put a positive spin on her miserable husband. She acknowledged that things were a bit rocky as they filmed Season 14. “We definitely started filming at a time when Shane and I were on a downward spiral. Not seeing eye-to-eye, not getting along very well,” Emily said. “So what you see is pretty real. It’s rough, it’s rough.”

She added, “There’s obviously another side of Shane other than the small little glimpse you get on the show. He’s multi-dimensional. There’s another side to him as well. But what you see is also real too. I’m not going to say that’s not him. He can be that way.”
According to Emily, her husband has made some changes regarding their marriage, and everything is much better. “Shane’s been amazing. Things are probably the best they’ve ever been in the 11 years we’ve been married.” And Emily feels like Shane watching RHOC has given him a new insight into himself.
“[Shane] really saw and heard everything everybody was saying and really took it to heart. He watched with the intent from learning from it, and he learned a lot from it,” the attorney said. Emily joked that it could be “maybe just the millions of people tweeting, ‘Shane shouldn’t be such a jerk.’” Well, Shane shouldn’t be such a jerk.

Emily, as usual, is still hopeful about her husband. “I think he probably had a moment of self-realization where he thought, ‘Emily is a good wife and really good mom. I won the wife lottery. I need to step up my game,’” Emily shared. “And he really has. I have to give him credit for that.”
Shane once again took the bar exam in July, and in November he will find out his results. Of course, Emily even gave Shane’s props for that. “You have to give Shane credit for having perseverance. I know a lot of people make fun and say he’s trying to take it this many times and he should just give up, but what about commending him for having perseverance and trying to do it?” Emily remarked.
Emily also wanted to make it clear that Shane brings home the bacon in their family. “I know a lot of people are like, ‘Emily’s the bread winner in the family.’ No, I’m not. I work and I make money, but I don’t make enough money to afford the lifestyle that we have,” she revealed. “It’s obviously Shane.” Why is it obviously Shane?

In a video clip from Reality Check, People reporter Dave Quinn asked what Shane said about Emily’s Vegas dance after Shane watched the episode. “He…I don’t know. He never said. He didn’t say,” Emily responded. Wow–sounds like Shane has done a complete turn-a-round. Now there’s some sarcasm! Look, I like Emily. I think she is a strong woman. I just wish she would take the blinders off about the way that her husband treats her.
