Braunwyn Windham-Burke put the “real” in Real Housewives of Orange County during the Season 15 premiere episode. After apologizing to Emily Simpson (which she initiated on her own) for pushing her away last season and brushing off her comments about Braunwyn’s party habits, she looked into the camera and said “My name is Braunwyn and I’m an alcoholic.”
She also admitted to drinking at least once an hour during a Miami trip with Kelly Dodd to celebrate Rick Leventhal’s birthday because if she didn’t have alcohol, she would have the shakes. Braunwyn even confessed to hiding alcohol bottles and refilling alcohol bottles to keep up appearances. Now, that it’s all out in the open, Braunwyn is opening up about her sobriety journey.
Following last week’s RHOC episode, Braunwyn posted a photo of sobriety chips from Alcoholics Anonymous to her Instagram page.
Braunwyn began, “258 days, one day at a time. Thank you to everyone that helped me on my journey so far, @captainsandrayawn for giving me the courage to tell my story.” Captain Sandy Yawn has been sober for over thirty years. Who knew that these two were even friends?

Aside from the obvious Bravo connection, this just seems to be so random, but good for Braunwyn. Plus, considering how much hate Captain Sandy is getting these days (which is deserved considering her recent claims about another person’s sexuality), it’s nice to hear about her actually doing something helpful for another human being.
Braunwyn also thanked Evolution Media, the production company behind the Real Housewives of Orange County and one of the show’s executive producer for helping her tell “this story as real and honestly as we could.”

Braunwyn revealed, “When we started this season I was 12 days sober, we document the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, the unfiltered reality.”
Braunwyn concluded, “9 months ago my life was unmanageable, but today I’m happier then I’ve ever been, living life honestly on life’s terms. #sober #onedayatatime #bestchoiceever.”
