Braunwyn Windham-Burke has had a long journey to authenticity this season. The Real Housewives of Orange County star shocked us episode after episode. She revealed she’s an alcoholic, had a woman move in with them, and then ultimately came out as a lesbian. She took it one step further at the reunion, saying she was never attracted to husband, Sean Burke. And that was AFTER a vow renewal this season.
But aside from her revelations, fans have seemed divided on what to think. Braunwyn is coming out thirstier and thirstier as the days go on. She hired a photographer to take pics of her at BLM rallies. The ladies on the reunion were all too happy to point out. She also recently claimed that she only came out because TMZ had pics of her and her girlfriend. That had a lot of people scratching their heads, wondering if Braunwyn is a big enough star for TMZ to actually care.
But through it all, Braunwyn has stayed committed to her task of staying sober, which can’t be easy given the amount of scrutiny she’s faced. In a recent Instagram post, Braunwyn announced she’s one year sober. The photo features a smiling Braunwyn and Sean on the beach, looking very happy. In the caption, she posted, “No one ever said it would be easy, but thank you @seanwindhamburke for making it easier. Officially #1YearSober… as always, one day at a time #onedayatatime.”
While no one from the RHOC cast has commented or liked the post, Braunwyn got plenty of support from her Bravo family. D’Andra Simmons commented “I’m so proud of you. Congrats!” Margaret Josephs added, “Congrats!!” Randall Emmett, Stephanie Hollman, and new Real Housewives of New York cast member Eboni K. Williams all “liked” the post. Braunwyn did limit comments, so she didn’t really get any negativity while celebrating this moment.

Sean has taken a lot of flack for his decision to stay with Braunwyn as of late. But he took the time to make his own post in support of his wife. The post features a similar picture of them at the beach, with a sweet caption. It reads, “It’s been a year, and you made it…. sober. So happy we are where we are today!”
Braunwyn may have filtered out the negative but Sean got one fan who questioned his happiness. The fan asked, “Are you REALLY happy? I can’t imagine you seriously being happy.” To which Sean responded, “I’m very blessed, so much to be thankful for.” The rest of his comments were all positive and praising him for being so supportive. Which he deserves because the man is a saint.

Either way, I’m proud of Braunwyn for staying sober under scrutiny. Like she pointed out, it wasn’t easy. But love her or hate her, she deserves all the props for this. Congrats, Braunwyn!
