Can we agree that the fakest Bravo proposal was when Gretchen Rossi proposed to Slade Slimy Smiley on a helipad? Slade was broke (remember, he asked the jeweler to put an “imitation stone” in the ring setting?). In order to lock down some Season 9 income (spoiler: they didn’t), Slade and Gretchen manufactured an elaborate proposal. That proposal consisted of Marilyn Monroe cosplay, a song by Gretchen, a helicopter, and totally authentic declarations of love. Why the trip down memory lane?
Well, Watch What Happens Live gifted us with a week-long special that celebrated past and present Bravolebrities. The “Blasts From the Past” special was dedicated to former housewives. Taylor Armstrong, Phaedra Parks, Jill Zarin, Adriana de Moura, and Jacqueline Laurita joined Gretchen on WWHL to spill some tea and grill Andy Cohen.
In an “Ask Andy” segment, the housewives put Andy in the hot seat. Gretchen prefaced her question saying, “just between you and me, I always felt like we had a good relationship. I think the thing that hurt me the most, if I’m being quite honest, was all the girls on the show put out to the press, or accused Slade and I of having a fake relationship, and that was really hard on me.”
Gretchen continued, saying, “then, when I saw you go on the Season 8 uncensored episode and kind of made reference to that, that like really hurt me because I felt like that was a sacred thing between Slade and I.” Can something scripted be sacred?
“I just am curious, do you feel bad about that now looking back?” Gretchen asked. She also pointed out that, “Slade and I have been together 12 years… Does it make you go back and go, ‘huh maybe the girls were not right about this’?”

Andy responded honestly, saying, “clearly, I was wrong, first of all. Secondly, I did think at the beginning think that Slade was possibly dating you to be on the show or something. And I loved it – I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I thought it was crazy he had dated two other housewives. I thought it was kind of incredible for the show, so I loved it.” I love that Andy was so open about loving the shadiness of it all.
“But yes,” Andy said, “I think that I did question it. I definitely did, at the time, think the engagement was made for TV. And since you’re not married still, I don’t totally know if was for TV or not.” Excellent point.

“But clearly, I was wrong about your relationship, Andy told Gretchen, “because here you are, and you have a child, and you’re very happy, and I think you’ll be together forever… I definitely cop to it and I’m sorry I hurt your feelings.”
Gretchen lied again clarified, “none of that engagement was fake. It was truly one of the most special moments of my life so I think that’s why I was so tore up about it.” Those are Gretchen’s words, btw.
Andy finished the segment, saying, “send my regards to Slade.” Honestly, Gretchen and Slade would be better to watch than any of these current cast members.
