No one can deny that Season 11 of Real Housewives of Atlanta was a tough one for NeNe Leakes and her husband, Gregg Leakes. NeNe ripped up Cynthia Bailey’s friendship contract because Cynthia was hanging with Kenya Moore.
NeNe was infuriated when RHOA co-stars Kandi Burruss and Porsha Williams ventured into NeNe’s closet against her wishes. Worst of all, Gregg announced in June of 2018 that he was battling stage 3 colon cancer.
On October 21, 2018, NeNe took to Instagram to detail the problems that the couple was facing. “CANCER! I know many of you can relate and understand! It changed my life in so many ways,” NeNe wrote. “With all this change happening, I’ve felt lost and alone not to mention the roller coaster of feelings my hubby Gregg has had! He’s Definitely felt isolated from the rest of the world, mad, sad, depressed and left with asking why me! BUT GOD….,” NeNe added.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in November of 2018, NeNe shared what it is like to be a caregiver for an ill spouse. “The day that they told us that Gregg has cancer, my life changed in that moment. Being a caretaker is very hard,” NeNe stated. “I feel like that day I lost my husband because he’s not with me.” The duo experienced marital issues, and they even discussed separating.
In April of 2019, RHOA fans learned that Gregg was finished with chemo. And in May of 2019, Gregg announced that he was cancer free. He shared a photo on Instagram of himself holding up a sign. It read, “No cancer found! Praise God!” Gregg wrote in the caption, “I thank my wife @neneleakes for being there for me.. Sometimes it wasn’t easy..”
But now, NeNe has shared the upsetting news that Gregg’s cancer has returned. Gregg fought cancer the first time with grace, strength, and faith. Now NeNe and Gregg are ready to do battle once again.

NeNe explained Gregg’s condition on an Instagram Live. “He’s been in the hospital, tomorrow will be a week,” NeNe said. “I’m sure he’ll be home in about a week or so,” NeNe said. “He had to have a surgery.” The RHOA alum commented that Gregg “had this surgery before.” NeNe asked her followers to pray for her husband.
She said, “This is the first time I’m saying something about it. I’d love everybody to pray for Gregg… pray for his strength… and pray for me too.” NeNe added, “It’s difficult. He’s super small. If you’ve ever been around somebody who’s had cancer before, he’s different.” It is sad that Gregg is fighting cancer again.
NeNe recently went on Instagram with an update on Gregg’s condition. (There is some rough grammar ahead.) “Hey guys….I was really caught off guard in that interview when asked about Gregg! He’s a private person so i hadn’t said anything publicly (his wishes).” NeNe wrote. “(Only our circle really know details) and really sometimes it’s best that way because people just read into it whatever they want too and family….whew Chileeeeee i just can’t,” NeNe remarked.

She continued, “Gregg told me this morning he had 80 text messages and wanted to know what was wrong wit his phone. Thank you for your many prayers text messages and calls. Gregg says to me…keep smiling,” NeNe wrote with a smiling emoji. She added, #fuckcancer @americancancersociety”
