Alliances shift each season on Real Housewives, and while the dynamic between the core group of cast member on the Real Housewives of New York remains relatively unchanged, new cast members have a way of shifting friendships as well. The relationship between Luann de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, and Ramona Singer is ancient history, they fight and make up just as quickly. There is genuine love there, despite their quirks.
But sometimes it takes an outside lens to shape these relationships for the better. Eboni K. Williams observed these ladies in action, Luann and Sonja at each other’s throats one minute, then embracing the next. Sonja gets labeled a one night stand often, and Eboni decided to guide Sonja on a path of self-worth and valuation. Her reaction was appreciative and very moved.
So it’s no surprise that Sonja and Eboni have gotten very close since filming ended. Sonja and Leah McSweeney joined Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live recently and answered questions about the progressing season. When asked, “out of all the ladies, who do feel is the most genuine friend to you right now,” Sonja responded, “wow you’re killing me. I couldn’t ever be any closer than I am right now to Luann or Ramona.”
That’s so interesting, because these ladies have been friends for so long. But something clearly brought them closer together this season. Maybe RHONY viewers have yet to see it unfold, but perhaps Sonja’s journey to self-respect has changed the way her friends view her.
Sonja added, “but I became very close with Eboni because we were both raised by our grandmothers. We both lived with our grandmothers and we bonded over that. And just being alone in the city.”

Meanwhile, Leah is with Sonja in the Clubhouse and not a word is being said about her. “I am sitting right here,” she joked. “You’re very genuine,” Sonja admitted. It’s all in good spirit and Sonja has a great rapport with Leah. Leah revealed that she and Sonja, “have been talking a lot lately. I feel I talk to you more than you talk to Ramona and Luann. I know you’ve known them longer.” Sonja also pointed out that, “we were in the bathtub together.”
It’s noteworthy how Sonja and Leah’s relationship has evolved since last season. It was an Occupy the Hamptons atmosphere between them at first. Now, they are in fun friendship. “Listen, we went from where we went from, ‘don’t be all socialist, don’t be all socialist,’ and now we’re like talking all the time. I’m the most genuine.” Leah joked.
