Eboni K. Williams joined the Real Housewives of New York for Season 13. She was the first Black Housewife on the franchise, and I think that she was an excellent choice. But trying to school her RHONY co-stars on racial issues and Black history has failed.
Eboni hosted a dinner party in Harlem and gave the ladies a history lesson. Unfortunately for Eboni, Sonja Morgan and Ramona Singer were talking and fidgeting like a couple of toddlers.
When the RHONY cast visited Ramona’s house in the Hamptons, Ramona referred to her employees as “the help.” Eboni explained why that had negative connotations, and Ramona apologized. Apparently, miracles do happen in the Hamptons!
Eboni also clashed with Luann de Lesseps. When Eboni commented that she was the most educated person present, Luann called her “angry.” Luann later apologized, but Eboni didn’t reciprocate. After the episode aired, Eboni took a brief break from social media.
Eboni made it plain that she wasn’t going to shy away from discussing race on the show. And she also wasn’t going to let her RHONY co-stars off the hook. “Frankly, I was not going to tiptoe around these women when it came to any of it. I’m not playing with y’all… Their comfort is just not my concern,” she remarked.
This season has been nap-inducing. During the most recent episode, the cast was in Salem, Massachusetts. Viewers were served lots of witchery and bitchery. But when Eboni revealed that her grandmother had passed away, her co-stars actually embraced her and comforted her. That was nice to see.
Then Bershan Shaw came in like a missile and called her co-stars “grandmas” and said they were “a little bit boring.” Apparently, many RHONY fans agree. The reunion taping has reportedly been delayed because of issues behind the scenes.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Eboni showed both her serious and her fun side. Host Andy Cohen read Eboni a question from a fan. “Garcelle [Beauvais] is one of my all-time favorite Housewives. Eboni, do you two know each other or have a friendship?”
Eboni responded, “We do. Garcelle is in my text message thread right now. She’s a queen.” I agree.
“She laid the groundwork for what it’s like to be a woman of color integrating an all-white cast,” the attorney stated. “Umm…and she’s Fancy, honey, from The Jamie Foxx Show. A queen! A queen!” Eboni exclaimed. Fancy was the name of Garcelle’s character on the show.
Garcelle joined the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills during Season 10. She said in a statement, “I am excited and proud to be joining the cast of such a wildly popular and beloved show like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” Garcelle said. “As the first African American Housewife in the Beverly Hills franchise, I am honored and humbled by this awesome opportunity to exemplify the fact that Black Girl Magic lives and thrives in every zip code!”
In January of 2020, Garcelle discussed her reasons for joining RHOBH. “I feel like, ‘Why not?’ I wanted to do something outside of the box –it is sort of like my midlife crisis,” she quipped. “Instead of buying a Corvette or doing something crazy, I joined the Housewives.”
