Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has started and we are in for one wild season. If you watched the trailer, there’s plenty of drama outside of Jen Shah’s legal issues. But let’s face it, much like Erika Jayne on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Jen’s problems are going to take center stage. And much like Erika, Jen’s castmates are going to have to decide if they want to remain friends with the accused. After all, Jen was arrested (while filming) for money laundering and fraud. Which is no small charge. It’s important to note that these are only charges and Jen does maintain her innocence.
But some of her castmates are sounding off about her reaction to her legal woes. Again, to draw a comparison to Erika, Jen hasn’t exactly been humble on social media. And it’s not playing out well. Fellow cast member Meredith Marks spoke with Entertainment Tonight about her thoughts on Jen’s handling of this mess.
Meredith begins, “There’s absolutely no way anybody could have possibly anticipated things to unfold the way that they do.” Meredith is speaking of Jen’s arrest and the alleged targeting of “vulnerable, often elderly working class people.” Jen did plead not guilty but if found guilty, faces up to 30 years in prison. Yikes.
Meredith continued, “These are very, very, serious charges in a district that has an extraordinarily high conviction rate.” How does Meredith know this you ask? Apparently Meredith graduated law school. She never practiced so maybe take this with a grain of salt. Or maybe Meredith has been doing her research.

Anyway, Jen’s humor surrounding her legal battles and making fun of her state of dress the day she got arrested doesn’t sit well with Meredith. Even Jen’s tagline makes light of her situation. Meredith said of the charges, “I would be taking them very seriously. I know she pokes fun at things here and there, like the Kim Kardashian comment [about joining her legal team], or whatever. I can’t, for the life of me, imagine that she’s not taking them seriously. I think maybe that’s her coping mechanism. I don’t know. … Her way of dealing with it may just be making light of it.”
Either way, I think we can all agree it’s not a good look for Jen. No one likes a fraud, even if it’s an alleged one.
