It feels like it was just yesterday when we first met Avery Singer on the first season of The Real Housewives of New York City. Back then, she was just a preteen, focused on her schoolwork but getting dragged to acting auditions by Ramona Singer. Seriously, remember when Ramona tried to get Avery in a Meryl Streep movie? Thirteen years later, Avery is all grown up, and she’s stepping out from her mother’s shadow and venturing off to a new city. And as a good reality TV personality should, Avery has been documenting the whole process on Instagram.
The 26-year-old first started contemplating a move back in April. According to Bravo, she took to her Instagram pondering the question: “If you were similar in my shoes, where you had a fully remote job for the next two years, and you were lease-less like myself, and you have no ties anywhere, what would you do for the next two years?”
Honestly, it would be nice to be in similar shoes as Avery – wealthy parents, few responsibilities, and endless opportunities. It took her five months to figure out a plan, but she recently shared that she’s settled on a new place. “I chose a city. I’m moving to Chicago tomorrow,” she confirmed in an Instagram story.
And she’s not the only member of the Singer family who’s leaving the Big Apple for the Windy City. Avery is also taking Coco, the 17-year-old dog! So this means Ramona is genuinely about to have the experience of being an empty nester, and she’s having mixed feelings about it. After all, the mother-daughter duo just spent a great deal of time together over the last year while riding out the coronavirus quarantines.

When Avery asked her mom how she felt about the upcoming move, Ramona tried to play it cool. She replied, “I don’t know. You’re not really leaving, you’re just visiting another place. I’ll visit you, and you’ll still come back and visit here.”
That answer is very on-brand for Ramona, but the emotions really started to sink in the next day when the RHONY OG shared to Instagram that she was feeling “sad and happy at the same time.” She later wished them luck and shared a clip of the trio on their final walk together. “My young girls are leaving me, but I will visit them,” said Ramona.
Avery has only been in Chicago for a couple of days, but it seems like she’s already off to a good start. Over the weekend, she shared videos of herself dancing along the shore of Lake Michigan and enjoying rooftop parties with the dazzling Chicago skyline in the backdrop. Meanwhile, Ramona spent her first weekend as an empty nester wining and dining around New York City. But, it’s probably only a matter of time before she ends up paying Avery and Coco a visit to Chicago.
