Candiace Dillard Bassett and her resume are forever evolving. She’s a singer, an actress, an entrepreneur, and a homeowner. But despite her accomplishments, one person she is constantly struggling to impress is her mom, Dorothy Dillard. Ever since Candiace joined the show, Dorothy has been in the background, throwing shade and swinging her purse at every opportunity. Season 6 of The Real Housewives of Potomac is no different.
Since the beginning of the season, Dorothy has made it well known that she doesn’t necessarily approve of Candiace and Chris Bassett’s “husbandger” arrangement. However, this week at Candiace’s music video shoot, things reached a new peak as Dorothy made a scene-stealing appearance on set. She sauntered from Housewife to Housewife, dropping tidbits about the questionable state of affairs in the Dillard-Basset household.
Mia Thornton definitely played a minor role in getting the shade-fest kicked off, asking Candiace’s mom if Chris receives a paycheck for his management duties. Of course, everyone was wondering the same thing, but Mia, please don’t get Dorothy started! Because once she starts, there’s no stopping her.
“I didn’t expect him to quit his job after she got married … and be a house husband,” Dorothy later whispered to Karen Huger, fully aware that they’re both mic’d up and filming a massively popular reality TV show.

Dorothy’s shenanigans are hilarious for us sitting at home watching, but apparently, it’s not so great for the actual people involved. Last night on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Candiace how it felt seeing her mom interact with the other Housewives.
“It was disappointing,” the “Drive Back” songstress explained. “So we watch the episodes before they air, and I watched it without Chris, and then I was like afraid to have to have to tell him about it.”
Candiace also reflected on the similarities between her situation and what unfolded between Kandi Buruss, Todd Tucker, and Mama Joyce over on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
“It’s giving like, Kandi, Todd, and Mama Joyce, like I need to have a meeting. Kandi, I need you to call me,” Candiace joked.
Kudos to Candiace for being so well-versed on her Bravo history. But in all seriousness, it sounds like Chris wasn’t too thrilled to see the episode. When Andy asked how he reacted to Dorothy’s behavior, Candiace said, “He was disappointed. He was really upset. The things she was saying were not true.”
