After 9 seasons on Real Housewives of Atlanta, reality star Porsha Williams finally decided to take her leave from the show. And while it was a bumpy ride to say the least, few of us will forget her contribution to housewives. But Porsha might have a good reason in timing this leave. Her personal life took a hard turn when after a month of dating, she became engaged to Simon Guobadia. Who happened to be castmate Falynn Guobadia’s husband (at the time). Fans spent years cheering Porsha on, but this was too much for a lot of them. The social media backlash was quick. Luckily for Bravo, they didn’t care and gave her a spin-off. So if you’re still a Porsha fan, no need for concern. She will still be on your screen.
But Porsha wasn’t always the confident Bravolebrity that she is today. Now she’s sharing the childhood hardships she faced. They will be detailed in her new book, The Pursuit of Porsha: How I Grew Into My Power and Purpose. She recently opened up to People about some of her struggles. Which included a lifelong struggle with depression and surviving multiple abusive relationships. Porsha even talked about how she contemplated suicide as a child.
Of writing the book, Porsha revealed, “It was very therapeutic and hard as hell. I wanted to talk about those moments of despair, how I came out of them, and what it took to get there. Everything I have been through has made me the woman I am today.”
According to Porsha, her depression started at an early age after being bullied for her body at school. During some particularly dark days, she contemplated suicide. She said that at the time, “I was too young to even understand what I was dealing with. It wasn’t until I was about 29 that I really identified with the word ‘depression.'”

Her mother tried to help by sending her to therapy, but it didn’t stick. Porsha recalled, “I developed different skills to survive. Like speaking positively to myself and not focusing in on all of the negative.” Porsha also admitted that she took a break from therapy while writing the book but plans to return soon.
When it came to falling in love with Simon, she said it was natural. Porsha gushed, “He’s a big advocate for going to therapy, so he’s done a lot of work on himself, and I have been doing a lot of work on myself. I knew very early on that he was the one for me.”
As for moving on with her life, Porsha still feels grateful for everything she’s been through. She concluded, “I was just saying to my mom, ‘Look where my life is today.’ I feel absolutely blessed. No matter what has happened, I still thank God for all of it.”
