Selling Sunset Star Maya Vander Discusses Heartbreaking Late Pregnancy Loss

It’s been a hot minute since Selling Sunset Season 4 was released on Netflix. Most of the season dealt with Christine Quinn’s fallout with the first ladies of Los Angeles real estate (most especially Mary Fitzgerald and Heather Rae El Moussa). However, there were also some personal moments that had nothing to do with the realty or reality world.

Christine welcomed her first child with husband Christian Richard during filming. While the cameras weren’t present for the actual event, they were present when Christine shared her experience with Amanza Smith and newbie Vanessa Villela. Christine shared that during the delivery, things went awry and Christian was asked by a nurse to choose whose life to save. His wife, or his new baby. Can you even imagine?

There was barely time to process that information, before the cast was getting together for a dinner party at Jason Oppenheim’s home to welcome the newest team member, Emma Hernan. OG Oppenheim Group realtor Maya Vander even flew in from Florida for the event. When asked by one of the ladies how her babies were, Maya responded, “Which one? Baby number one, baby number two, or baby number three?” pointing at her stomach for number three. Giving us all the feels with an impromptu baby reveal.

Tragically, Maya recently shared to her Instagram account, that the baby was stillborn.

“Yesterday was the hardest day of my life. I had a still birth at 38 weeks. I always heard of it but never imagined I’ll be part of the statistics. Instead of delivering a baby, I get to go home with a memory box…” My heart is breaking for her. While I have never had to go through anything like this, my first two babies were born 11 weeks early, and we almost lost them, and that experience gutted me. No parent should have to face the loss of a child.

Maya continued, “I do not wish this on anyone. What was a regular weekly checkup turned into a nightmare that I never imagine will happen to me. Given I share my pregnancies in the show I knew I’ll have to post about this and avoid the ‘when is your due date’ question. You will always be in our heart baby Mason.”

Opening up to US WeeklyMaya shared, “No one knows [why this happened] yet. At this point of the pregnancy, I have a weekly checkup. I felt less movement a few days prior. I went to a private ultrasound check and everything was fine and looked normal. … I delivered a normal baby that looked like he was sleeping. This will chase me forever.”

Maya and her husband share two other children, both of whose pregnancies were followed during previous seasons of Selling Sunset. This has got to be such a hard time for all of them. The whole family, “is devastated. My baby due date was right around Christmas. This is the best time of the year to celebrate. … My husband is heartbroken, and I know I need to be strong for him and for our family.”

Bless her heart, this woman is strong. I could not imagine sharing something so personal so soon. Good for Maya, for using her platform to provide comfort and support to others who have walked the same path. I am in awe of her strength, and my heart goes out to her and her family at this time.
