The Real Housewives of Orange County newbie Noella Bergener has been making headlines on and off the show for her marriage imploding before our very eyes. She was shockingly served her divorce documents from her soon to be ex, James Bergener, whilst the show was filming (probably not the storyline she hoped for on her premier season), and we’re currently learning about how the complex and increasingly ugly divorce is going down on the show but also on Instagram. The public slinging match between the two has been hard to follow, but Noella also stirred some controversy in a recent episode of RHOC because of her unusual choice of gift for Max Dubrow – teenage daughter of Heather Dubrow and Terry Dubrow.
Fancy Pants Heather did what Heather does best and hosted an epic party for her daughter to celebrate the launch of her new book. Even though the two were not necessarily on good terms, Heather invited Noella to the party given the previous bond Noella and Max had made at the sushi party from hell where Noella embraced Max for also being bisexual. It might seem however, that Noella might have been a little too comfortable and crossed a line with her gift giving.
Noella thought it was appropriate to give then 17-year old Max a sexually explicit pride themed card game. Heather was NOT pleased and I don’t blame her… not only is it inappropriate, it’s also just weird…? She’s only met her once before, it’s just creepy and eew.
As viewers, we had to endure the awkward parent moment when Heather read aloud some of the content of the cards to co-star Gina Kirschenheiter who unlike us, couldn’t hide her squirming behind a screen. Heather is fiercely protective over her kids, and rightly so, but it doesn’t seem that all of her co-stars share her frustrations and views about the incident.

Fellow mama-bear Shannon Beador was recently asked about the questionable gift whilst sitting down with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live.Andy asked her about the gift and whether she thought it was inappropriate. Shannon replied “it was absolutely inappropriate, but I don’t think that the intent was there…I think she had no idea what she was giving her”.
Whilst that may be true, out of Heather and Shannon, I actually think Shannon is the more conservative parent and I feel like had the shoe been on the other foot, and had her allegiances not been with Noella this season, her views and reaction would have differed entirely. I can actually imagine a full on Shannon dramatic episode if one of her twin daughters received the same gift from a fellow housewife, especially one she was butting heads with, even if the ‘intent’ wasn’t there.
