Stassi Schroeder made a living out of being basic. She even titled her book: Next Level Basic: The Definitive Basic Bitch Handbook. For a while, she was doing the basic thing really well. She starred on Vanderpump Rules, had a podcast, and did a lot of endorsements on social. But it was all taken away after she took that mean girl act way too far.
In 2020, Stassi and Kristen Doute were fired from Pump Rules for exhibiting racist actions by making false criminal claims about Faith Stowers, the only Black cast member on VPR. Time and again, Stassi has shown that she doesn’t understand the concept of privilege or anything to do with identity issues around race and gender. When this is the case, you should actively listen from people who know about these things and maybe stop talking for a bit. But again, Stassi is a different breed. Case in point, her new book: Off with My Head: The Definitive Basic Bitch Handbook to Surviving Rock Bottom.
I guess Stassi being told to take a time out for being cruel and ignorant is “rock bottom.” Whereas rock bottom for anyone else would be much worse; it certainly wouldn’t include living in a huge home, negotiating a second book deal, and getting a new podcast. Stassi even got bff, Katie Maloney–Schwartz to promote the book in a story on Instagram right before the reunion aired this week. Here’s what Stassi shared about the book in her own Instagram caption last night:
“The last couple of years have been a freaking rollercoaster for everyone,” Stassi writes. “There’s been a lot of loss, a lot of big realizations, and a lot of unexpected changes – for most of us, anyway. It’s no secret I’ve made some big mistakes and have been called out for them, but I’ve also done a lot of reflecting and learning… and writing.” Okay, I don’t doubt it, but also, it’s way too soon to be doing any of this.

Stassi continues, sharing, “Off With My Head is the Definitive Basic Bitch Handbook to Surviving Rock Bottom. And rock bottom looks different to everyone.” Haha. You said it, Stassi! According to the two-time author, rock bottom “could be the feeling of rejection from a really messy breakup, the stress and uncertainty you feel after being laid off, or just the loss of your sanity because you miss your former life.”
Thing is, people’s rock bottoms are different. But when you consider all the reasons Stassi was cancelled and all the “reflecting” she’s been doing, shouldn’t she understand the privilege it requires to be able to write a book about being cancelled? Shouldn’t she be able to see that this is proof that she was not actually cancelled? She was just fired for her own wrong-doing! Other than that, nothing has changed for Stassi.
“By writing this book,” Stassi continues, “I hope to shed some light on what happened with me, but my real hope is that my stories can help someone else find their way out of their own worst times… and maybe laugh at my expense along the way.”
Who knows, maybe this book will sell like Lala Kent’s Give Them Lala!
