I just so happen to love Alexia Echevarria. To me, she is by far the most interesting cast member of Real Housewives of Miami. She appeared in the original series back when it aired in 2011 and thankfully for us, she returned for season 4, which was recently rebooted. Alexia is rich, super confident, knows who she is and doesn’t make excuses for anyone. In short, she’s a whole vibe.
But life hasn’t always been easy. One of her story lines of the season was the revelation that her estranged husband, Herman Echevarria was secretly gay. Alexia and Herman separated in 2015 and he tragically died of a heart attack a year later. Earlier in the season, Alexia felt “ready” to discuss the situation and spoke with Herman’s boyfriend on the phone for hours. But she does wish she would have known about Herman’s sexuality sooner.
As reported by Page Six, Alexia spoke about it in an interview with the Instagram account S’More Date. Alexia admitted she wishes Herman would have come out while they were married. She explained, “I would have loved for him to have come out and had this conversation because I would have supported him and helped him.” She added, “And hooked him up with all my cute gay friends!”

Alexia did reveal that she confronted Herman about his sexuality at one point because she had doubts that he was straight. Said Alexia, “I actually confronted him because I did have a suspicion and he lied to me and said, ‘No, if I wanted that, I could have done that, but I never wanted that. I’m happy with you, I’m happy with my marriage.'” He also said, ‘If that’s the direction I would’ve wanted, I could have done that but it’s totally not true.'” As for why she wanted to meet with Herman’s boyfriend, she shared, “I wanted to have some kind of closure.”
It sounds like she has gotten some. Her relationship with Todd Nepola is heavily featured during this season as they were planning their wedding. There was even some tense drama between Todd and Alexia’s son, Peter Rosello. It was eventually resolved but the couple hit another tragic delay. Alexia’s mother died on what was supposed to be their original wedding date. But they did make it down the aisle in December of last year. After the ceremony, Alexia gushed, “It still feels like a dream I can’t even put into words. [It was] perfect for us! Truly everything we wanted. Just him and I…We look forward to celebrating with our friends and family in 2022.”
