Heather Gay has been a fan favorite from day 1 of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The self-proclaimed ex-Mormon has been funny and relatable. She takes being called Shrek with grace. And she is a ride or die friend to those who probably don’t deserve it. Like Jen Shah, who is the one who called her Shrek in the first place. When Andy Cohen received a star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, his friend John Mayer even referenced Heather in his speech. He asked, “For example, when Homeland Security shows up to the Beauty Lab and Laser parking lot and your friend’s life is suddenly in shambles, will you be a Heather Gay or a Lisa Barlow?” Then went on to call Andy a “forever Heather Gay.”
But as Phaedra Parks used to say, “Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” Which is a very dramatic and poetic saying that no one is perfect. And that includes Heather. During part one of the reunion, a heated fight between Lisa and Heather broke out. And Heather got called out for her past. Lisa questioned, “What about your DUI?” Heather responded, “I don’t have one. Look it up!”
Unfortunately for Heather, someone did just that. As reported by Page Six, Utah court documents show that Heather was previously arrested for a DUI. On July 1, 2012 and she was pulled over by an officer who smelled alcohol. She was asked if she had been drinking and she admitted to having “a ‘few sips’ with friends at a local club.” The report also noted that she had a prescription or Adderall.
Heather allegedly refused the breathalyzer test on scene but based on a search warrant, had to take one at the police station. She blew a blood alcohol level of 0.06 and tested positive for amphetamines. Heather pleaded not guilty to both the DUI and a misdemeanor traffic charge when she was arraigned.

She then went on to file a motion to suppress evidence. She contended that the officer exceeded the scope of the warrant. Heather also argued that the officer should not have had the toxicologist run a test for amphetamines in her blood. A judge denied the motion. Heather’s DUI was later reduced to a reckless driving charge. She was found guilty and sentenced to 180 days. Heather didn’t have to serve it though – 178 of the days were suspended and the other 2 days were completed through community service.
As part of her guilty verdict, Heather was ordered to pay $600 in court fines. She also received 364 days of probation and had to attend a LIVE MADD Victim Impact Panel.
But Heather isn’t the only Bravolebrity that was busted for a DUI. Most notably, Gina Kirschenheiter from Real Housewives of Orange County was arrested for a DUI in 2019. She pled guilty and avoided jail time. But she did end up having to Uber to every cast event that season.

Heather, who has always seemed like an open book, hasn’t responded to the news or addressed it on her social media. Maybe she’s working on her statement now. Either way, I doubt it will deter fans from enjoying her on the show. And hopefully, she has learned from this mistake.
