The fallout between Deepti Vempati and Abhishek “Shake” Chatterjee continues. The Love Is Blind couple caught everyone’s attention due to Shake’s mistreatment of Deepti. They connected in the pods and got engaged, but ultimately Deepti left Shake at the altar. And thank goodness she did. Because as it turns out, she wasn’t the only one who had misgivings about him.
As reported by Showbiz Cheatsheet, Deepti appeared on a recent episode of Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files to explain. Despite initially seeming attracted to Deepti once they met outside of the pods, Shake quickly changed his tune. He complained to castmate Jarrette Jones, “I’m not physically attracted to her, man. It feels like I’m with my aunt or something.” Jarrette, who seemed uncomfortable, laughed at the comment, which rubbed viewers the wrong way.
But when Deepti watched the scene, she felt differently and defended Jarrette. She explained, “All of the cast had my back with Shake.” She continued, “They kind of saw the type of person he was. And I think the editing kind of showed Jarrette in a weird laughy mood there. But Jarrette actually specifically pulled me aside and was like ‘I don’t think you should marry him. He doesn’t speak highly of you.’” She added, “Shayne [Jansen] the whole time protected me, so I’m thankful for the cast.”
Said recalled of the cast, “They saw I was a good person. They say I actually cared and took care of Shake so much during filming. His anxiety levels were so high. I like calmed him down. I’d walk his dog, make him breakfast, pack his lunches.” It’s kind of annoying that producers didn’t show this. I know that editing down many hours of footage seems impossible. But showing how Deepti continued to nurture their relationship would have been crucial to understanding the depth of her hurt. And it would have given us a much clearer vision of Shake’s lack of respect for Deepti.

Deepti concluded, “I just put so much of my time and energy into that relationship and so to see he treated me that way and talked about me that way is disheartening and kinda sad.” I feel so bad for Deepti. She came into this with such an open heart and really tried to make it work.
For his part, Shake refused to apologize for his behavior once the show aired. Which is no surprise given his character. Shake recently posted an Instagram video to his stories and defended his actions. Said Shake, “One thing I don’t feel inclined to do is pretend I’m sad or sorry about certain things — certain things that were out of my control, certain things that I can’t necessarily even speak about.” He added, “I’m just not going to do that. I’m not sorry.”
