Nothing is more entertaining than watching a Real Housewives star fall from grace, mainly due to them thinking they would never be caught. To viewers, it seems pretty obvious that if you’re on a national TV show, you should have a squeaky-clean background. However, some of the Bravo stars thought they could beat the United States legal system. To this sentiment, viewers cackle at their brazen attitudes.
Most Real Housewives seasons are tame, with the women pulling a wig or two, or just yelling at one another. However, over the years, more information has been coming out about a few housewives. It’s led viewers to stop and question, “Doesn’t Bravo do a background check on these ladies?”
These are the real housewives with the worst legal troubles, and what landed them in hot water with Johnny law.
Teresa Giudice
The OG of Real Housewives of New Jersey tried her best to pretend she lived an extremely luxurious life, which included living in a six-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot mansion in Montville, NJ, and buying her four daughters designer outfits. However, Teresa Giudice’s fall from grace was anything but graceful. Ultimately, the legal ramifications of her actions with Juicy Joe Giudice cost her almost everything.
In 2014, news broke that Joe and Teresa had been anything but honest when it came to paying their taxes. Both Real Housewives of New Jersey stars pled guilty to mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud. Teresa was forced to serve 11 months in jail and missed out on quality time with her family, especially her mother, who passed away shortly after Teresa was released.
Erika Jayne
What can we say about the “Pretty Mess” singer, except she loves to double down and bet on blonde, especially when Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans are out for blood. Another one of the real housewives with the worst legal troubles, Erika Jayne found herself tangled up in quite a mess when her ex-husband, Tom Girardi, was accused of stealing funds from the victims of the Lion Air 610 flight.
The duo was sued, and their divorce was sighted as being a sham to protect the couple’s money. Erika proclaimed multiple times that she was unaware of Tom’s dithering. She even claimed she was just as much a victim as those who lost loved ones in the plane crash. Not a good look for the Las Vegas singer.
Jen Shah
Not only did Jen Shah rent her Salt Lake City ski chalet, she also borrowed the Porsche from the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 1 and multiple designer outfits. From the start, Jen was a troublemaker who honestly never thought she would be caught by the federal government. In March 2021, Jen and her assistant, Stuart Smith, were arrested for their role in a nationwide telemarketing scheme. Even with a mountain of evidence, Jen denied her guilt.
Jen was looking at 20 years behind bars for her crime. It certainly didn’t help when Stuart turned on his former boss. However, in July 2022, Jen pleaded guilty, cementing her place as one of the real housewives with the worst legal troubles. In January 2023, she was sentenced to six and a half years behind bars. Once she is released, she will have five years of probation.
Lisa Vanderpump
Even though she may think herself the darling of RHOBH, Lisa Vanderpump had a few run-ins with the law herself.
Lisa and her husband, Ken Todd, were accused of breaking California labor laws. In 2020, via E!, a number of SUR employees alleged that they were not paid their wages and that Lisa and Ken failed to even pay minimum wage to their workers.
Lisa Hochstein
There is no doubt that Lisa Hochstein of Real Housewives of Miami had an extremely tough year, mainly due to her separation from her snake of husband, Lenny Hochstein. After the news broke that the mother of two had been cheated on, information was revealed that Lenny’s mistress, Katharina Mazepa, was going after Lisa.
The model filed a restraining order against Lisa, via People, which alleged that the Bravo star had harassed her while out in public. Katharina called herself a “victim of cyberbullying.” Lisa denied any wrongdoing, and in December 2022, the restraining order was dropped, and Lisa noted she had been “vindicated.”
