To be a Real Housewives star, you have to be cunning, conniving, and know how to keep your friends close but enemies closer. Becoming a Bravo housewife takes a lot of strength, and it isn’t for the faint of heart. There are often tears, betrayal, and even a few laughs, but usually, you don’t end up keeping the friends you started out with. Very much like a good thriller, the franchise forces the women to choose lifelong friendships or allies.
Lisa Vanderpump
One of the most iconic Real Housewives of her time, Lisa Vanderpump alienated a lot of the women close to her, especially as she burned bridges on her exit from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Not only did the queen of pink throw away her friendships with Teddi Mellencamp, Dorit Kemsley, and Erika Jayne, but she also threw away her relationship with Kyle Richards. Like any close confidant, the two had their hiccups throughout the years.
However, Lisa seemed to be cruising for a bruising when she expected Kyle to lend blind support during Season 9. The fight was epic, one of David and Goliath proportions that severed the friendship pact for good. Kyle accused Lisa of leaking stories to the blogs, which every housewife does, but Lisa took offense to the accusations. Lisa threw Kyle out of her villa, saying, “You came here to tell me I am a liar. So we’re done.” Not surprisingly, the two haven’t spoken since.
NeNe Leakes
No friendship contract was going to keep NeNe Leakes from alienating her circle of women down in the ATL. Viewers of the Real Housewives of Atlanta watched NeNe push her close friends like Kim Zolciak and Shereé Whitfield away for seasons as her ego grew and grew. However, all bets were off when NeNe decided to cut ties with her ride-or-die, Cynthia Bailey. For the most part, the supermodel seemed to be a model friend to NeNe, always lending support and kind words.
During Season 11, NeNe lost her mind and accused Cynthia of acting “sneaky and underhanded.” NeNe felt slighted when she learned that Cynthia was helping her arch nemesis, Kenya Moore, come back to the series. Naturally, Cynthia denied any wrongdoing, but NeNe didn’t see it that way and exploded on her former friend at the reunion. NeNe claimed, “I’ve tried to be a good friend to her, and I’m just tired.” It was a sad ending for NeNe, who walked away from the series with fractured friendships.
Bethenny Frankel
The Real Housewives of New York City star is a hard nut to crack, with Bethenny Frankel often standing alone. She eviscerated almost everyone on the series with her as she slut shamed Luann de Lesseps, telling Kelly Bensimon she was “cuckoo for coco puffs, and basically being snarky every day. Fans loved it, but the other women not so much.
By far, Bethenny’s biggest friend fallout was with her bestie for multiple seasons, Carole Radziwill. There was obvious tension towards the end, with both blaming a miscommunication about Carole’s then-boyfriend Adam helping to photograph Bethenny’s charity. It didn’t help when Carole saw Bethenny bashing her in her confessionals for not being married, not having kids, and not having a career. However, Bethenny seems happy to be standing alone, answering to no one.
Teresa Giudice
The mother of four just doesn’t know when to stand down when it comes to the compulsive need to have to be right. Teresa Giudice had a close bond with Jacqueline Laurita for multiple seasons but didn’t know how to tell her friend the truth when it came to her big legal matters. So much went into the demise of their friendship, with Teresa to blame for most of it. In her cookbooks, Teresa joked that Carolina Manzo was “as Italian as the Olive Garden.” Ouch—words hurt, Tre!
Teresa also didn’t like that Jacqueline was getting close to Danielle Staub, who the two had already agreed to ignore. Unfortunately, Teresa has a knack for blaming her friends for her issues, especially her fallout with Joe Gorga. Teresa has alienated her own family, including cousins Kathy Wakile and Rosie Pierri and her brother. Teresa’s motto of either you’re with me or against me has cost her numerous friends throughout the years, and she often shows little remorse for her actions.
