Squid Game: The Challenge Trailer Teases New Games and ‘Savage’ Moments

Netflix has dropped a Squid Game: The Challenge trailer, and it looks set to shock everybody watching.

The reality TV competition series features 456 players leaning into chaos and deceit to win a $4.56 million prize fund.

How far would the contestants go to take home the money? We’ll find out soon!

Squid Game: The Challenge trailer delivers surprises

The trailer showed that the contestants are literally stepping into the world of the popular Netflix show Squid Game, complete with towering bunks, money-driven competition, and the iconic green jumpsuits.

To make it even more realistic, the employees and game marshals are also decked out in red costumes. They’ll be keeping the group in check. Or at least trying to.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be realistic without “blood.” Squid Game was undoubtedly bloody, and the game promises to be the same, albeit with a PG twist. In this game, the blood will be represented by black ink, and viewers can see one woman get shot with it during the Red Light, Green Light challenge.

“This is a savage game,” one contestant revealed, while another said it was a game of “strategy.” Both statements are probably accurate. There will definitely be tons of friendships, rivalries, and double-crossing!

The show is set against the backdrop of children’s games, the larger-than-life Squid Game doll, and more. There’s even a vending machinegiant filled with teddy bears and a big version of the board game Battleship.

Not without controversy

Netflix first announced the reality competition in 2022, and controversy followed. Is it shocking that a contest based on the violent, death-ridden world of Squid Game would be mired in its own controversies? Not really.

A year after the show was announced, some contestants said that the treatment on the show was “inhumane.” Others claimed it was a warzone and “people left in tears.”

Some claimed that contestants were made to compete in extremely cold conditions and pushed through potential hypothermia because there was so much money on the line. I guess life really does imitate art.

Netflix responded by saying they “care deeply about the health of our cast and crew and the quality of this show. Any suggestion that the competition is rigged or claims of serious harm to players are simply untrue.”

They added that they took all appropriate safety precautions, including contestant after-care and an independent adjudicator to oversee the safety and fairness of each game.

Squid Game: The Challenge will consist of 10 episodes and premieres on November 22, exclusive to Netflix.
