Tom Sandoval having an affair seems like a distant memory, despite it always making headlines. The phrase “Once a cheater, always a cheater” has a pretty good track record. Of course, people can always change. That’s one of the beautiful things about humanity. But in general, those who commit infidelity don’t have the best reputation.
Case in point, Sandy. It’s hard to say whether Tom has learned anything from Scandoval. It’s been months now since the Vanderpump Rules cheating scandal first broke, and Tom seems to be the same self-important TV personality.
For all the fans hoping that Tom might reflect on his actions and come out a better person in the end, well, bad news ahead. The singer has come out and said he may very well cheat again. For someone who thinks so much of himself, one would expect more self-awareness. But no.
Tom finds it’s better to “lower expectations”
On the October 19 episode of his podcast Everybody Loves Tom, the VPR star spoke with comedian Nikki Glaser. During their conversation, Nikki said she’d heard from Nick Viall that Tom told him, “I can’t say I’ll never [have an affair] again.” Tom confirmed that he did indeed say that, and gave more of his perspective on the matter.
“Yeah. I don’t like dealing with absolutes. That’s the way to the dark side,” he said. “I find it’s better to lower expectations in a way and then exceed them.” The public’s expectations for Tom have got to be lower than ever. Nikki said she understood where Tom was coming from, and that it was impossible to know what might happen in a relationship’s future.
It probably can’t be stressed enough, but Tom needs therapy. Fidelity is the bare minimum in any relationship. If Tom truly believes he can’t enter another relationship without the possibility of cheating, it sounds like he needs to work on himself. The emotional maturity is just not there.
Vanderpump Rules is expected to return to Bravo in early 2024.
