DWTS Alum Maks Chmerkovskiy on Mauricio Umansky and Emma Slater: ‘They’re Single’

The alleged romantic relationship between Mauricio Umansky and Emma Slater has had a chokehold on the media ever since the two were spotted holding hands. The Dancing with the Stars partners tried to explain themselves, but that didn’t quell the theories. Since then, almost everyone has opined on the situation. Most recently, former DWTS star Maks Chmerkovskiy threw his hat in the ring.

The ballroom pro made a guest appearance on the show for the tribute to Len Goodman. During his brief return to the show, Maks got to see Mauricio and Emma in their element, getting real close to one another. After seeing the two perform the way they did together, how could he not have an opinion?

In an interview with The U.S. Sun, Maks put forward his two cents on Mo and Emma. “He’s an awesome dude. Emma is a cool girl. They’re single. You think they’re not going to look at each other and be like, ‘Damn, you’re hot and interesting and also fun to be with?’ if they have a good relationship.” However, he emphasized that he didn’t know of anything for certain.

He continued, “If Emma and Mauricio find each other to be those people for them, I wish them nothing but butterflies and all the best.” In the past, Maks recalled, “Looking at other people before, I’d be judging. I’d be like, ‘Oh, how dare they? Oh my God, holding hands. Stop it.’” But in recent years, Maks’ attitude has changed to, “Do you boo.”

Maks also said it would be beneficial for the pair to maintain a positive relationship at this point in the competition. “Right now, week five/six is when you start to get into each other’s face – a little annoyed, very tired, probably also hurt a little bit. These things catch up and it does play a role in your emotions, and so, at least it’s a great sign for Mauricio and Emma on DWTS.”

Dancing with the Stars continues Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
