The word “narcissist” gets thrown around a lot, especially in conversations regarding Tom Sandoval. The Vanderpump Rules star certainly does seem full of himself, so narcissist feels like an apt descriptor.
However, there’s more than one kind of narcissism. There’s the general term most people throw around without really knowing its meaning, then there’s the medical definition. Narcissistic personality disorder is a psychological condition characterized by patterns of the need for admiration.
On the surface, one would think Tom might have NPD. Of course, no one should diagnose another person without the proper credentials. With Tom so often being characterized as a narcissist, he must’ve gotten curious and finally decided to take a test.
Tom’s vanity is quantifiable, but is Sandoval a narcissist?
On the October 26 episode of his podcast, Tom spoke with Dr. Drew Pinsky to finally engage in something akin to therapy. Tom spoke to Dr. Drew about his parents’ divorce, his sexual insecurities, and his alleged narcissism. Dr. Drew even administered a narcissism test to Tom, reporting his findings on the podcast for all to hear.
“You took the narcissism test. You are not measurably narcissistic. It is a test for narcissistic traits. It is not a way of diagnosing a disorder but it is a way of showing traits,” the doctor explained. “You actually scored very low.” Dr. Drew admitted he was surprised by the results.
He continued, “The only thing you were slightly up on was vanity. That is a reasonable measurement of something you’re interested in because of your appearance. It is not good or bad, it is just a trait.” The average score on the test is 15-16, and Tom scored 7. The doctor then said Tom exhibited co-dependency more than narcissism.
Vanderpump Rules is expected to return to Bravo in early 2024.
