Last week on the Season 13 premiere of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, viewers saw the first sign of trouble in Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky’s marriage. If you don’t know how many tattoos your wife has, and then forbid her to get more, you are not scoring any points.
So, let’s get into the recap for Episode 2, “An Unwise Surprise.” This episode feels a bit disjointed. It serves to set us up for the big Las Vegas trip.
Picnic for two
Dorit Kemsley had a tea party set up in the park for Erika Jayne. Dorit wanted to clear the air with her. Erika admitted that she was wrong when she stated that Dorit and PK Kemsley would be the next to break up. Dorit explained that it was a hard time, with PK spending a great deal of time in London. So, Erika’s comment stung more than it normally would.
Dorit revealed that her purse was stolen after she took out $10 thousand from the bank. It sent her back into the throes of PTSD.
Sutton wants a specific man
Garcelle Beauvais and Sutton Stracke are planning a Vegas weekend for Crystal Kung Minkoff’s 40th birthday. Meanwhile, Sutton enlisted the services of a well-known matchmaker. She called herself a “one-date wonder.”
This matchmaker was a fan of letting a man lead, but Sutton objected to that philosophy. She wants a handsome, tall man who has graduated college and has some money. The line forms to the left, Sutton.
Kyle was in the hot seat
Dorit went for a ride in Kyle’s new car, a 2023 Range Rover Autobiography. PK asked Kyle to take Dorit to lunch at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. He wanted to recreate the movie Pretty Woman for their anniversary.
Dorit asked, “How are things with you and Mo?” She said that she hadn’t seen Mo and Kyle together for a long time. Kyle said that he was stressed because of work. But Detective Dorit is suspicious.
Dorit asked Kyle if she ever thought she might not end up with Mo. Kyle wanted to know why her friend would think that. Dorit replied that Mo had been missing from Kyle’s Instagram.
“I feel like I needed a little freedom … and some space,” Kyle responded. “Specifically away from your husband?” Dorit asked.
Kyle looked furious. “Away from everything,” she said. Dorit knew that Kyle wasn’t being honest, but she didn’t want to press her luck.
A pretty, but panicked, woman
When Kyle got the room key at the front desk. Dorit said, “You’re scaring me, Kyle.” Just what you want someone to say when you are surprising them.
Kyle hinted to Dorit about what movie all this reminded her of. Dorit started to become anxious and wanted to know what was happening with her kids. She asked production, but they told her to ask Kyle.
Dorit called PK and spoke to her kids, who were aware of the surprise. Ever since the home invasion, Dorit has been more anxious and needs to feel in control.
Dorit’s glam squad arrived with a selection of red dresses. Dorit was trying to control the process, complaining about the dresses and that she needed a particular bronzer.
Did PK take Dorit’s breath away?
Both Dorit and PK love surprises and big reveals. Finally, Dorit came down to the lounge and greeted PK. He showed her a necklace worth $5 million, but it was only on loan.
Then the band Berlin sang Take My Breath Away, which was one of Dorit’s favorite songs. During an extravagant dinner, PK announced that he was done doing surprises. Way to kill the mood. He accused her of being a control freak. She explained that she likes to be in charge of what she wears.
PK doesn’t understand PTSD. Dorit just wants help with kids, schedules, and regular life stuff. He seems rather unsupportive, and ignorant, about the trauma that she went through.
But in a confessional, PK said it would be a huge “surprise” if Mauricio ever did something like this for Kyle. Shady!
Garcelle felt like a failure
Garcelle went to visit Sutton for lunch. Sutton felt that she was rough on the matchmaker. She gave up her power in her marriage, and she had no say in any decisions. Sutton will be in the driver’s seat from now on. I get it.
Garcelle was emotional because her son, Jax, wanted to go and live with his father. Sutton reassured Garcelle, and told her that “teenage boys are kind of assholes.” And Sutton pointed out that they are such good friends because their lives are still linked with their ex-husbands.
Kyle spilled a secret
Kyle claimed that she and Mo were no longer in sync. And she referred to The Agency as “the other woman.”
At Portia Umansky’s 15th birthday party, Estella, Mauricio’s mother, asked if everything was okay. She keeps reading online that the Umanskys are having marriage trouble. Kyle told Estella that a photo of her without her wedding ring started the rumor. Even though that wasn’t the truth.
Kyle announced at the dinner table that she had a tattoo, and Mauricio’s eyes bugged out of his head. She whispered and asked if his parents knew that they both had tattoos. Mo said they did not know.
So, Kyle took Estella aside and told her that she had tattoos. And that her son has one, too. When Kyle told Mauricio what she said to his mom, he was furious. He asked why she would do that.
Mauricio told Kyle that he didn’t want to talk about it and that it was his business. Kyle didn’t expect him to be that pissed. There is an abnormal amount of tattoo drama in this household.
Viva Las Vegas!
The ladies hopped on a private jet to Las Vegas courtesy of Kyle. They gifted Crystal with a diamond and sapphire necklace worth $3,000. Then Erika announced that as a Catholic, she has given up fighting for Lent. Sure, Erika.
Garcelle told everyone to get dressed up because Erika was bringing them to Magic Mike Live. Sutton was excited and had a stack of dollar bills all warmed up. In a hilarious turn, Dorit skipped bringing glam. But Crystal did.
Four hours later, at the show, Sutton got upset and said she wanted her mic off and left, causing an argument among the group. It looks like things are about to implode!
