Captain Sandy Yawn Recalls Time She Had Heart Attack During Gym Class

On Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8, Episode 7, audiences saw Captain Sandy Yawn suffer a fall while moving kayaks on the top deck. The captain immediately thought her wrist was broken, but continued helping until the job was done.

In Episode 8, fans discovered that Sandy did indeed fracture her wrist. That made her resiliency all the more admirable, though, maybe a bit misguided. Speaking of resiliency, Sandy came right back to the boat, able to continue steering the ship, even with a cast.

This wrist injury wasn’t the first time Captain Sandy powered through a medical scare (perhaps unwisely). On a recent episode of her podcast, “Conversations with Captain Sandy” from Hurrdat Media, she discussed the time she had a heart attack while at the gym.

Hurrdat Media posted a clip of the podcast to their official TikTok. “I had a heart attack,” Sandy shared. “So, I was in soul cycle, drinking a lot of Red Bull, and I had a heart attack. Because Tiffany spoke, I recognized the signs; I decided not to get off my bike because I didn’t want to disturb the class. So, I stayed until the last song played.”

“Then I thought, ‘Clip out of your bike, Sandy, so you don’t break your ankle if you fall over.’ Who thinks like that? Women, right? And I walk out and I think, ‘I’m not gonna be seen calling an [ambulance] in Beverly Hills. So, I called an Uber.” Sandy’s guest, Dr. Tiffany Di Pietro, told the audience to never call an Uber in place of an ambulance.

“And isn’t that why more women … die from heart attacks?” Sandy asked. Dr. Di Pietro said, “Women tend to ignore their symptoms a lot more than men … Women; they could be dying in front of you, like, ‘I’m fine, I gotta go pick up my kids from school.’”

Below Deck Mediterranean continues Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
