Southern Hospitality star Maddi Reese is gearing up for Season 2 of her hit Bravo show. What she likely knew from jump is that it wouldn’t be a walk in the park. In addition to the infidelity rumors she’ll have to face with her partner, Trevor Stokes, the reality star will also share more about her sobriety journey. It’s a brave move, and one to be celebrated.
As the VIP Manager of Republic Garden & Lounge, Maddi is around alcohol day and night. However, she hasn’t had a sip of it in eight years and intends on keeping it that way. As for her decision to share her sobriety on camera, the reality star said it was for “accountability” purposes. “It helps me stay sober.”
Publicly sharing her journey isn’t only helpful for Maddi; she said her story has touched the watchers at home, too. “I feel like I’ve had a lot of people reach out to share their stories [with] me, and they’ve been inspirational, and it means the world to me,” she told The Messenger. “Just because my story is a very unique story and everyone has a different story. There’s so many people that say, ‘Oh, I have a family member,’ or something where substance abuse or addiction runs in their family.”
What other struggles will Maddi face during Season 2?
Even though Maddi’s decision to work in the nightclub industry while remaining sober is not traditional, she said she’s found encouragement from others in the same position. Hearing those stories keeps her on the straight and narrow.
“It’s kind of a weird thing for me to be like, ‘Hey, I’m sober, and I work in this industry where I’m selling alcohol and a good time,'” she said. “I do think that there’s everything in moderation and everything like that, but to hear other people who have struggled with that has been inspirational.”
Based on the teasers for Season 2, in addition to balancing work with her sobriety, Maddi must also keep a close watch over her relationship with Trevor. She dealt with judgment from the rest of the crew during Season 1 after deciding to get back with him following his cheating incident. Per the trailer, it’s happened again.
The new season kicks off on Bravo on December 7th at 9/8c. Based on everything we know so far, it should be everything and more.
