With everything that happened in 2023, it makes perfect sense that Jax Taylor will be gracing my screen again in early 2024. Surprisingly, the former Vanderpump Rules bad boy is set to return for Season 11. I thought Bravo had rid us of the bad Snidely Whiplash mustache and farting father of one. However, it seems it’s hard to fully say goodbye to one of the best reality TV villains of all time. Like it or not, Jax was the pinnacle of everything we loved about VPR in the early days.
He was a slimeball who cheated on every woman he was ever with just because, at one time, he had those devilish good looks about him. Jax held his tongue for no one, including his boss, Lisa Vanderpump. He made comments that would have any church lady clutching their pearls.
Yet, with Vanderpump Rules Season 11 soon to premiere, I’m feeling some sort of emotion about his return. Could it be anticipation? Could it just be gas? Either way, I think I am actually getting excited about the fact that Jax will be returning to SUR and definitely stirring the inevitable Pumptini.
New Year, New Jax
After being the first bad guy booted out of House of Villains, Jax is very much looking to return to the safety net of a semi-scripted reality TV show where his peers do no voting. During BravoCon 2023, VPR producers revealed Jax would be returning for an episode or two of Season 11. The trailer showed Jax grabbing a bite to eat with Lisa as he told her, “You wrote me off!” This could be a reference to why he was fired from the series. Jax will also be in a scene where he catches up with Tom Sandoval.
Jax Might Have Needed a Paycheck
It feels a bit odd that a former cast member would want to reenter the dingy ally of SUR after being fired from the series. Yet, here Jax is. My guess is that he needs a bit more of a substantial income than pushing hair loss cream and opening up Jax’s Studio City, his own lounge, complete with beer cheese. I can’t imagine that Jax’s current projects were paying enough.
Even if Jax isn’t in the entire season, he would get some sort of compensation for his time and energy. In fact, Bravo may have really shelled out to get Jax back, just for the shock value it would bring Vanderpump Rules Season 11.
Vanderpump Rules 2.0
Bravo viewers have been waiting patiently for the Vanderpump Rules spin-off. It’s said to be based around the OG group of friends who have outgrown SUR and moved on to child-rearing and mortgage payments. Jax Taylor returning to Vanderpump Rules could be an attempt to usher in a new era and promote the newest series, which will also star Brittany Cartwright and Kristen Doute.
Jax and Brittany have been getting the itch to return to Bravo after successfully hosting recap episodes on Peacock for Season 10. The show was a massive part of Jax’s life, so it does make sense that he would want to reenter the Thunderdome even though a lot has changed. For starters, somehow, the father of one is now the voice of reason. If Jax and Brittany are meant to be the stars of Vanderpump Rules 2.0, having him on Vanderpump Rules Season 11 will remind fans how good for TV he was.
The Verdict
I don’t see Jax or any OGs returning to Vanderpump Rules in full capacity. Mainly because the network wanted to cancel after Season 10 anyway, with Scandoval being their saving grace. I must admit, though, I am split on my opinion of Jax. Before being fired, he mocked his co-star’s mental health, accused Faith Stowers of crimes via tweets, and oozed male toxicity. His outrageous behavior often walked the line, with most fans feeling that Jax was more trouble than he was worth.
If he is slated to make more appearances during Season 11, I want to see a reborn Jax. A Jax that is humble. A Jax that is better than Sandoval. If Jax can deliver all this during his cameo, I’m in for a penny, in for a pound.
