When it comes to Tom Sandoval, Katie Maloney has made it more than clear that her loyalties lie with her Something About Her business partner, Ariana Madix.
Katie and Sandoval have always gotten along like a match and gasoline. Her ex Tom Schwartz nearly always taking his buddy’s side against her in every argument was a major factor in their divorce. But when #Scandoval went down in March 2023, Katie landed firmly on Ariana’s side.
With Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules just over a month away, Katie sat down with former Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe on her Off the Vine podcast. Among other subjects, Katie spilled the tea on where she and Sandoval stand today.
Katie updates the status of her ‘friendship’ with Sandy
Nine months have passed since Scandoval exploded in the press. Ariana has come out a winner with a Lifetime movie role, a slot on Dancing with the Stars, and the lead part of Roxie Hart in the long-running Broadway musical Chicago. Though Sandy was a cast member in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, he’s still touring as a wannabe rock star with his cover band The Most Extras. He hasn’t changed “in the slightest,” according to Katie.
“Apologies are words,” Katie told Kaitlyn. “When someone’s really sorry, you see that they’re sorry. You see it with behavior modification, you see them changing how they operate. It’s one thing to say that you’re sorry, it’s another thing to prove that you’re sorry.”
It’s still all about Tom. He doesn’t seem to get why the world was so shocked and disgusted by his cheating on his girlfriend of a decade. “He doesn’t understand why this was such a big deal,” Katie says about his response to all the brouhaha in the press. He’s still trying to normalize his behavior and recently said, “Everyone has cheated.” Not me! People with character and a solid commitment to their partner don’t cheat.
“[Maybe] people were doing that when they were, like, young,” Katie went on. “You’re not supposed to still be making those stupid mistakes and choices when you’re in your 40s.”
So the answer is “no” then. They’re not close. Never were, and probably never will be.
