Here’s When Squid Game: The Challenge Winner Will Receive Their $4.56 Million

Squid Game: The Challenge was a lesson in human psychology. With $4.56 million on the line, and 456 contestants battling it out for the huge cash prize, just how far would people go? Surprisingly, the majority of the action we saw go down was fair, and selfless. There were some selfish moments, but on the whole, I was a little disappointed in how non-cutthroat these contestants were. Did they forget what was up for grabs?

In the end, single mother Mai Whelan, who came to the United States as a Vietnamese refugee, was victorious. She beat runner-up Phill Cain in a battle of rock, paper, scissors. Yep, you read that right.

But when will Mai actually get her money? It was revealed that she hasn’t yet seen the cash go into her bank account. Now, we’ve been given some answers.

Mai signed a contract on the show that stated the jackpot would be given to her within 30 days of the finale airing. That means that Mai will receive her $4.56 million no later than Friday, January 5, 2024. Not long to wait! Whether or not she will receive the money in one lump sum, or in increments, wasn’t revealed.

Mai has been splashing the cash in advance, enjoying luxury purchases such as a Ralph Lauren dress and Jimmy Choo shoes. She’s certainly looked the part of a glamorous queen during her promotional circuit, after the end of the show.

Mai has revealed she will be spending some of the money responsibly, putting a chunk aside for a retirement home. She’s also committed to donating some of the bucks to charity.

Squid Game: The Challenge is available to stream now on Netflix. Applications for Season 2 are open now, accessible here.
