If it’s New Year’s Eve, then we need to see our boys Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper whooping it up on CNN. It’s what we expect. It’s what we deserve. But is that going to happen his year?
Two years ago, Andy got a little too tipsy on tequila, and as a result, CNN decided to be basic and banned booze from the broadcast. The coverage suffered, and it was the most boring New Year’s Live in years. Andy was extra vocal about his disappointment with the decision.
2024 is right around the corner, and this year, CNN has been quiet about their rules around drinking during the New Year’s broadcast. However, Andy has been teasing that he might have something on tap for this year’s celebration.
Bring on the booze
Andy has been dropping hints left and right that this year’s New Year’s Eve will return to its boozy roots. During a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live where Dr. Wendy Osefo was a guest, he teased that they had a lot of “fun planned.” When Wendy asked if they were going to drink on air, he crossed his fingers and replied, “Watch and see!”
Last year due to CNN’s alcohol ban, Andy and Anderson took “mystery shots,” which turned out to be gross things like buttermilk and apple cider vinegar. It just wasn’t the same. This year, Andy said that he’s hopeful he won’t have to sneak any booze onto the set.
He recently shared, “I haven’t heard anything yet, but come on, they need to let us drink. It’s New Year’s Eve. That didn’t go well last year in terms of viewer happiness about us drinking. People really cared and I hope CNN gives the people what they want.”
He continued, “Give the daddies some juice!”
Of course, we’ll have to tune in to see if the daddies actually get their juice. But, based on Andy’s hints, it seems like they might have something in store.
The New Year’s Live broadcast starts on CNN, on December 31 at 8 pm ET.
