It’s always amusing seeing the Streisand effect in action. The phenomenon results from attempting to cover something up, inadvertently drawing more attention to the attempted cover-up. This week, Eminem may have fallen victim to the effect.
See, Marshall Mathers III, or Eminem, had his legal team take the offensive against Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon of Real Housewives of Potomac fame. The legal action came as a response to Giz and Robyn’s podcast name, “Reasonably Shady.”
Eminem, often known as “Slim Shady” or simply “Shady” didn’t want to be mistakenly affiliated with Robyn, Gizelle, the Housewives, or reality TV in general. In response, the RHOP stars attempted to depose Eminem, but they may have severely jumped the gun, or, so argued Eminem’s lawyer.
Robyn and Gizelle’s ‘undue burden’ on Eminem
According to documents obtained by AllHipHop, Eminem’s legal team asked “this Board to issue a protective order precluding the deposition of Marshall Mathers III.” Eminem’s lawyer argued that a deposition was “unwarranted.” And that Gizelle and Robyn had multiple steps to take before trying to depose Eminem personally. Excerpts from the motion for a protective order are shown below.
“Opposer’s Motion to Compel the deposition of Mathers is also premature and unwarranted. Because despite Opposer’s expression that the deposition would be both duplicative and unduly burdensome given Mathers’ limited knowledge of the subjects at issue. Applicants have made no attempt to obtain the discovery they seek via more convenient and less burdensome means.”
The motion went on. “Opposer has offered to produce three other individuals having equal and superior knowledge to Mathers on the relevant topics. However, without making any attempt to assess whether they will be able to obtain the relevant information from said individuals, and having taken no depositions to date, Applicants remain insistent on deposing Mathers, a high-level and removed decision maker.”
