On Season 18 of Sister Wives, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown both made it pretty clear that they’re done with their ex, Kody Brown, as well as his other two wives. Neither woman has any desire to continue a relationship with either Meri Brown or Robyn Brown.
Meri, on the other hand, seems to feel differently. Perhaps because the extended Brown family was all she knew for 30+ years, she isn’t opposed to a reconciliation. She would love to have a close relationship with her former sister wives again. But were they ever even close to begin with?
In an interview with People, Janelle and Christine shared how they feel about that can of worms their respective relationships with Meri and Robyn since they both left Kody.
Just not a lot in common
Christine admits that she hasn’t really spoken to Robyn or Meri since her separation from Kody. Her six children are all still siblings with Kody’s other children, so they still “run into each other” at family functions. On those occasions, they rarely exchange more than a quick “hi” and a simple “nod.”
For her part, Janelle says she hasn’t exchanged any words with either Meri or Robyn. “It’s going to stay separate,” she says. “I don’t need to be close to either of them, really.” Meri and Janelle were never close to begin with. They even tried to heal their relationship through therapy when the family lived in Las Vegas, but they never seemed to make any progress.
Janelle explains that she just never had any “affinity for” either Meri or Robyn. “We were all part of a family,” she says. “We all worked hard when we were part of the same family, but now there just isn’t a lot in common.”
Meri’s not “closing any doors”
While admitting that she wasn’t sure what a relationship with Christine and Janelle would look like, Meri realizes they would have to work together to rebuild a bond. “It’s going to take all parties involved, you know what I mean?” she says. “But I’m not closing any doors.”
Three of Kody’s four wives left him within 14 months of each other. First to leave was Christine, who left in November 2021 after realizing she wanted more of a loving partnership than Kody could offer. Next to go was Janelle in December 2022, following a huge blowout fight that was filmed for the show. A month later, Meri finally called it quits after being in a platonic and distant relationship with Kody for years. Sobbin’ Robyn, who has the amazing ability to cry without ever shedding an actual tear, is the last wife standing.
Christine found the “love of her life” (take that, Kody) and publicly introduced her new boyfriend David Woolley on Valentine’s Day 2023. They married on October 7, 2023, and Janelle was part of the bridal party. Neither Meri nor Robyn were invited to the wedding.
Before the wedding, Christine made it clear to her fiancé that she and Janelle were a package deal. “I told him … ‘I have a lot of kids and I have a sister wife, and everywhere I go, Janelle has to come with me and all of her children come with me too,” she told David at the time. “There’s not just me. And he’s like, ‘OK. OK.’”
