Since Season 12 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, OG Kyle Richards’ life has certainly changed. When we last saw Kyle at the reunion, she was feuding with her sister, Kathy Hilton.
Now Kyle is grappling with marital problems. Her separation from her longtime husband, Mauricio Umansky, shocked everyone. They truly seemed to be one of the happiest and longest-married couples on Bravo.
Then Mauricio flaunted his midlife crisis by shaking his groove thing on Dancing with the Stars. He started hanging out with his partner, dance pro Emma Slater. And then he was spotted cavorting with Brazilian songstress Anitta at an Aspen club, spraying everyone with champagne. Wasn’t it way past Mauricio’s bedtime?
While Mauricio may be acting like a fool, I think that Kyle is the one having a true midlife crisis. Let’s take a look at all the major life changes that she has made.
Kyle Decided To Become Sober
Kyle, who was well-known for downing a few cocktails, doing the splits, and whipping her ponytail, has become sober. Her decision shocked her RHOBH co-stars, who wanted to hang with a fun Kyle.
She decided to get in shape and dropped alcohol, sugar, pasta, and bread from her diet. “I don’t see myself drinking again. I love the way I feel and look,” Kyle told US Weekly. She continued, “I haven’t had one drop of alcohol since July 15, 2022. I don’t miss it. After two glasses of wine, I’d wake up and feel [like I was] dragging,” she added.
Let’s be clear: there’s nothing wrong with getting sober. If Kyle feels happier and healthier because of it, then we’re here for it! However, it’s a big change to make, especially since it seemingly wasn’t prompted by addiction problems. It’s no surprise that Kyle’s sobriety stands out to fans and fellow Housewives as confusing.
Unfortunately, though Kyle is loving life as a sober woman, her decision to swear off the booze negatively affected her marriage. Mauricio has to go out and socialize with clients, and Kyle prefers to stay in. That isn’t a great sign.
Kyle’s Decision To Separate From Mauricio
On July 4, 2023, People reported that Kyle and Mauricio issued a statement confirming their separation after 27 years of marriage. “We have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously,” the statement read. It also stated that the couple had no plans to divorce.
During the Season 13 premiere of RHOBH, Kyle’s close friend, Dorit Kemsley, questioned Kyle about the state of her marriage with Mauricio. Kyle reluctantly explained, “I feel like I needed a little freedom—freedom and some space.”
The Umanskys have been dogged by cheating rumors for years. Usually, Mauricio was the focus of these whispers. But Kyle’s close friendship with country singer Morgan Wade led some to speculate that they were romantically involved.
According to Page Six, Kyle and Morgan were spotted looking “very intimate” in Paris. For the record, Kyle was filming a documentary on the road with Morgan. After Kyle played Morgan’s love interest in her music video for the song, “Fall in Love with Me,” chatter about Kyle cheating only increased. Both Morgan and Kyle repeatedly shut down the rumors and insist that they are just close friends.
She Transformed Her Body
Kyle developed a love for working out. She not only eats clean but works out every day. Her co-stars mocked her when she got up early to work out while the ladies were in Las Vegas. She also started running, which helps to relax her during stressful times.
Her co-stars Sutton Stracke and Dorit questioned Kyle’s sudden devotion to working out. They both felt it was linked to her marital troubles. But could it just be Kyle re-inventing herself?
Kyle Enjoys Getting Tattoos
It is an incredibly troubling sign when your husband doesn’t know how many tattoos are on your body. Yikes! And when Mauricio forbade her to get more, Kyle told him to take a long walk off a short pier. Kyle is all about doing what she wants to do. Period.
Her new bestie, Morgan, is covered in tattoos. Not only did they go and get inked together, but Kyle tattooed her first initial on Morgan’s arm.
She Is Drifting Away From Old Friends and Closer to Morgan Wade
Dorit wasn’t pleased that Kyle was getting tattoos with Morgan. Or that Kyle had been working on some projects that Dorit knew nothing about.
Morgan has come in and kicked Dorit to Kyle’s friendship curb. Kyle and Morgan are sober, love working out, and adore tattoos. Dorit doesn’t check any of those boxes. That is worrisome to Dorit amid all of Kyle’s new choices.
Kyle Is Pursuing Her Own Interests
Kyle has been focused on her projects. She has been acting, working on the documentary with Morgan, and indulging her love of reading.
She has certainly undergone a multitude of changes. While her four daughters are her main focus, she has decided to take care of herself and do what feels good to her. Judging by the tension-filled time that she spent on-screen with Mauricio, that may be for the best. Again- YIKES!
If you look at all the changes that Kyle has made, it certainly looks like a full-on midlife crisis. But the changes are positive. So, as long as she is happy and healthy, that is all that matters.
