Captain Sandy Yawn’s getting married! Following their September 2023 engagement, Sandy and her fiancée Leah Shafer are busy making plans for their wedding.
While Leah is handling most of the planning, the Below Deck Mediterranean star is very excited about their upcoming nuptials. “We have a friend that’s building a big boat, and she’s an entrepreneur,” Sandy shared. “She’s hosting [the wedding] on her new yacht, which is going to be an insane, massive superyacht.”
Sadly, the nautical venue limits the number of attendees, so she and Leah are still working on their guest list. “We can only have 55 people,” Sandy said, “so it’s hard when you got to tell people ‘You can’t come.’ It is so difficult.” The yacht captain shared details of her and Leah’s “incredible” plans with Us Weekly.
Some Bravolebrities on Captain Sandy’s wedding guest list
Despite the need to restrict the guest list, Sandy admitted that a few of her Bravo co-workers will be present. Chef Dave White from Below Deck Med Season 7 will be in charge of food preparation.
One of Sandy’s former bosuns, Malia White, joked in November that she had originally planned to officiate the ceremony “until someone stole my spot.” Captain Kate McCue, America’s first female cruise ship captain, also offered to officiate. But in the end, Sandy chose Nadine Rajabi, Below Deck Med’s showrunner and executive producer, who’s been a fixture in her life for eight years.
Sandy also promised that “some Bravolebrities” would be on the guest list.
Together five years
Sandy and Leah have dated for over five years. Sandy confessed that she knew she wanted to marry the gospel singer and aesthetician for years, but she was waiting for the right time. She finally popped the question in September 2023.
The couple first met in 2018 when Leah messaged Sandy on Facebook. Though we’ve heard Sandy talk about her partner for years, Bravo fans finally got to see Leah when the pair joined the Season 3 cast of Winter House for a ski day in Steamboat Springs.
When the interviewer asked if Sandy had any special requests for her wedding day, the veteran yacht captain said the most special part of the day is just having Leah in her life. “It’s about us so I’m not making it about everybody there,” she said. “It’s really about her and I.”
Captain Sandy continues to steer the ship in Below Deck Mediterranean, Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
