No one could’ve anticipated that Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 13 would’ve given so much attention to Sutton Stracke’s esophagus, but here we are. It all started when Kyle Richards indirectly accused Sutton of having an eating disorder.
As the conversation continued, newcomer Annemarie Wiley tried to understand and began questioning Sutton in front of the girls. Annemarie suggested Sutton’s esophagus problem was a symptom and not a diagnosis and told her to chew her food more.
As another medic in the Bravosphere, Dr. Nicole Martin from Real Housewives of Miami soon gave her two cents. Nicole felt that Annemarie’s line of questioning was “uncomfortable and cringey,” and that she was “belittling” Sutton. Now, Annemarie has responded.
Annemarie defends her “facetious” chewing comment
In a recent interview with Page Six, Annemarie apologized for making it seem as though she had belittled Sutton. She said the suggestion to chew more was a “facetious remark” (even though it certainly didn’t sound facetious at the time), adding, “I now understand that I’m not going to be given the same … leeway to be, you know, like, nonsensical,” like the other Housewives.
Even if she was being facetious, she should’ve known better as a professional, which is where Nicole stepped in to give her two cents. Regarding Nicole, Annemarie said, “I was really very hurt.” She further suggested Nicole should’ve had the “professional courtesy [to] reach out to me,” knowing her background in medicine and reality TV.
Annemarie further suggested that since Nicole responded publicly rather than privately, her response was less about medical awareness and more about attention. “This wasn’t so much about clarifying anything for anyone, it was really, unfortunately, about trying to capitalize off of the Beverly Hills show … This is what the kids call ‘clout-chasing.’”
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills continues Wednesdays at 8/7c while Real Housewives of Miami airs just after at 9/8c on Bravo.
