Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New York City premiered in July 2023 and featured an entirely new cast. The newbies were Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank, and Brynn Whitfield.
“I think that there were some growth areas,” executive producer Andy Cohen admitted. “Those will be dealt with next season.” Oh, so a Season 15 is in the works then! That’s good news for fans of the show.
Andy confessed the whole new cast was one of “the riskiest things” Bravo has done since he’s been there. Us Weekly has the details.
Sleepless nights chez Cohen
“[Replacing the entire cast] was something that I lost sleep over,” Andy shared. “I was incredibly relieved by the reception … because the original RHONY women were just chef’s kiss. They held such a special place in people’s hearts.”
Meanwhile, the new cast tried not to compare themselves to the legends who preceded them.
“I understand those women are iconic and always will be,” fashion designer Jenna told Vanity Fair in July 2023. “But it was a different time … a different group of people … a different setting. So my inclination is to not try to compare.”
For her part, interior designer Erin loved the original show. Even though she had “the utmost respect for all those women,” she felt a change was due. “We got to a point where the evolution couldn’t continue because it just became kind of stagnant. [It was] the same thing over and over.”
Though filming for Season 15 has yet to begin, Andy’s comments indicate that a new season is in the works. It’s unlikely viewers will see any new episodes, though, until mid-to-late 2024, at the earliest.
The Real Housewives of New York City is streaming now on Peacock.
