It’s January 2024, and Dorit Kemsley has officially made her stage debut in Peter Pan at the Eventim Apollo Theatre in London, England.
Fans got a peek at her performance after videos of the show were shared online, and many had a lot to express. Were they impressed? Or does Dorit need to go back to rehearsals?
Here’s what some had to say!
Dorit says hello to Peter Pan, with bestie Boy George
Dorit publicly joined Peter Pan back in May 2023. It was revealed she would play a mermaid alongside her good friend Boy George, who would be playing Captain Hook, in the stage adaptation of the childhood classic tale.
Fast forward, and Dorit posted to Instagram to share that she had arrived for her three-night stint in the show. “London I’m here!” she wrote. “Can’t wait to play both Mrs. Darling and The Mermaid as I join the amazing cast of Peter Pan.”
Dorit had revealed on an episode of the talk show Loose Women that she accepted the show as a way of dealing with her PTSD from when she was robbed at gunpoint in her California home two years ago.
“It’s been a very difficult two years, but panto came to me, and I was in the throes of PTSD,” she explained. “I’ve always been a go-getter and taking on projects, and I love working. I had been dealing with the emotional damage that came with PTSD, and when this project came, it felt like a catalyst. It helped me decide this year was going to be different.”
Dorit shared that her husband, PK Kemsley, helped, and while it was challenging, she gave it her all. Here’s hoping she had fun because it looks like the audience clearly did.
Reviews are in and … mixed?
After the show premiered, user @facereality16 posted a video on Instagram sharing snippets of Dorit’s performance where she asked the audience to help save Tinkerbell. There was also a snippet of her song and dance. She wore a blue sequined dress with fringe and took on an extremely camp accent.
Needless to say, some fans were confused. One commented, “Dorit in Beverly Hills: Weird London accent. Dorit actually in London: Weird New Jersey accent.” Another went on to say that she didn’t seem to know the words or choreography of her song. At the same time, another said, “My cousin Vinny the Mermaid,” about her accent choice.
To be fair, some posters defended her. Some said that pantomime performances in the UK are meant to be over-the-top and campy, which is true. Given that, she did great. Others praised her for having the courage to get up there and have fun.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills continues Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
