We always had questions that made us ponder, like the chicken or the egg or darkness or light. But who knew the Bravoverse would have thrown us a breadcrumb about who punched Heather Gay in the eye during Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 3?
According to Heather, it was Jen Shah in a California hotel with her fists. For over a year, the BeautyLab owner has been pretending she didn’t have a clue about what happened to her eye. Even though she tried to present a false narrative regarding an innocent tap jumping out of the sink and smashing her in the eye, viewers knew better, and finally, they were rewarded with her confession. Though Jen vehemently denies Heather’s claims, let’s look at why Jen might have given Heather a black eye (if she did).
Case Closed
The mystery of Heather’s black eye has seemingly been solved, at least partially. During the RHOSLC Season 4 finale, it was revealed by a very distraught Heather that Jen had been the culprit all along. During quite the monologue, Heather said, “We are friends, and we have been through this bullsh*t before with Jen. I went on a book tour and defended her and took sh*t for the fact that she gave me a black eye.”
While the rest of the women and viewers clutched their pearls, Jen released an Instagram Story slamming the network. “BRAVO,” she wrote. “If I punched Heather in her eye, you guys would have footage to prove it. It’s clear the show can’t live without me since I was brought up at the beginning, middle, and end of season 4.”
But here is where it gets weird—what would be the reason for Jen to punch her only friend left on the show? The math isn’t mathing. Even though Jen is a proven liar, could she be telling the truth now? Sadly, the girl who cried wolf isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt, as Heather’s word has been taken at face value.
Theory 1: Heather Questioned Jen’s Innocence
The ladies were all having a wonderful time in San Diego, which included various libations and skinny dipping in the pool. Everyone, including Jen, who had her upcoming trial looming, seemed to be relaxing. Towards the end of the night, Heather was seen going back to her room, and the door was jiggling. Behind the door was an angry assailant who lashed out. It is possible that Heather, with the help of loose lips, spoke out of turn, questioning Jen’s legal matters.
We’ve all seen Jen explode on those around her, and it is anything but Shahmazing. The mother of two has taken her anger out on Whitney Rose, her husband, the dressmaker, the candlestick maker (I jest), and even the Bravo camera crew, so it isn’t too far-fetched to think Jen would have slugged Heather if she felt she had been wronged.
Theory 2: Jen Told the Truth
Another interesting theory is that Jen could have also been pretty wasted that night and confessed everything to Heather. For multiple seasons, Heather has been ride-or-die for Jen, so the convict may have trusted her quite a bit. But she could have instantly regretted revealing her deep secrets after blabbing the truth.
Maybe Jen took it upon herself to physically keep Heather and her mouth in their place. Heather also had a bite mark on her body, which could indicate Jen was desperate to keep the information in-house.
Theory 3: The Punch Was an Accident
Jen gestured with her hands constantly when she talked or interacted with any of the other housewives. Could it be that during the party-like atmosphere, Jen just got overzealous and accidentally elbowed Heather in the face? But then, why cover it up?
It could be that Jen thought no one would believe her because of her past bad behavior. But surely lying all this time makes it so much worse. The question really would be, when does an accident cross over into an assault?
Theory 4: It Was a Lovers Tiff
At best, Jen and Heather could have been roughhousing with scratches leading to a punch. But back during Season 3, Angie Katsanevas joked that Jen had intel on BeautyLab being a mess and even went as far as to imply the two women could have been lovers.
During the episode, Angie joked that Heather and Jen were in the bedroom “doing Barbie scissor kicks,” heavily implying they were involved in a sexual relationship. This hypothesis seems like the most implausible of all the theories, though.
